games you played today: winning eleven

You’re about 2/3rds done but only 50% of your playtime if you catch my meaning. You could maybe speed through but remember The Ending is Seven Hours Long.

they spawn ziplines in a way that you can usually make a pretty good connection by putting one more tower down. Similarly, roads are spawned with enough resources that you the player can finish it yourself and get all the autogenerated kudos.

the game is about producing the illusion that you are participating in a communal activity when you are really just by yourself, and in that way it ends up being an extremely lonely experience, at least for me

i would like to do more deliveries, i think itd be fun to truck around a bunch of stuff after the roads get connected

there’s a game where that’s all you do

i played this silly thing the other night. i has very big zzt energy — it’s very stupid (compliment)

I thought the random zipline towers were left by other players???
The best part about the snow zone is snowboarding on the hover carts. I had a few runs that used that as part of the delivery route.

decided to get Miles Morales in this steam sale after hearing that it was an Xmas game which I somehow missed when it came out a few years ago (also it helps not having fatigue from having played the first one in the last 5 years, and this was a lot cheaper than the sequel will be for a while) and it looks extremely extremely nice maxed out

I also got Kingsvein after being Rad Codex-curious for a while and thankfully I really really like it even if the music is nothing but Chrono Trigger ripoffs, it’s like, good for them

tbh, Miles Morales is making me feel like I should have waited the extra couple years to get god of war ragnarok on PC too because I’ve been dragging ass on finishing it 2 years later, and having the visual novelty to complement the objectively great if occasionally dull Sony AAA production design would probably have helped, but with that one I remember it feeling more novel that it came out on PS4 at all, plus I was looking forward to it enough on release. oh well.

what is nice is that I’m enjoying my stupid expensive GPU vastly more now than at any other time in the last year and a half since I bought it, because that was in the middle of a very hectic/frustrating time for me wrt work and life stuff which were making computer hobbies uniquely unappealing (and I felt opportunistically obliged to get a new build done for several reasons), and this is the first quiet season that I’ve been in the mood to catch up on vidcons in a couple years now

Tetris

I hit a wall by level 11 in Tetris A-TYPE where it’s just too fast it’s game over every time. =p But in B-TYPE I can set my own parameters and just see how well I can maximize the score in 25 lines–and it isn’t just repetitive building for Tetrises, but digging out a pile of randomized blocks. It’s kind of working for me! Tetris is BACK, baby! ^ _^

Dark and Darker (Steam Early Access free version)

Nice graphics and atmosphere, it looks like. If they ever implement controller support maybe I’ll give this another shot; you can try the very mouse/keyboard controls mapped to a controller through Steam Input but it really feels like swimming upstream.

While a big fan of the game I’ve been telling people some version of this for two decades now. The central “intended” path has some legit obnoxious bits towards the back half/third and as noted it feels the game’s weakest ideas mostly ended up there. Again it is still a pretty good game overall as that first third/half is almost unimpeachable, but it ain’t never been flawless.

Metroid Prime 2 then ends up switching things around by being mostly bad with a few inspired bits here and there.

This time I will finally get past the first four chapters of Space Marine.

After nearly a year of debating it, I finally bought River City Girls 2, and I’m back on my bullshit battling the sunk cost fallacy. I realize that Tsuiko is probably quite beatable if I bothered to make Provie less under-leveled, or bought her a second healing item, or switched her for a character that I have a greater affinity for, or did a million other things. But darnit, I decided that I was going to beat her as I am, which means dealing with the million obstacles her final phase throws at me: electrified floors, seeker lasers, powerful mooks, a million and one flying obstacles that make it all too easy for me to get juggled across the stage or even just lose sight of my character, a buggy camera that sometimes forgets to zoom out properly, retro segments that do not seem to take into account the characters you’re actually using, the fact that an unreasonable amount of my attacks seem to whiff for no reason that I can determine, when it should logically be the other way around, given the spherical nature of Tsuiko’s force field…

I’m having fun!

throwing the door open and sliding in Kramer-style to hysterically say that everyone should be playing Atlyss

speaking of ragnarok, it’s somehow even worse than the first new god of war in terms of the normal difficulty being too easy but the hard difficulty often being more trouble than it’s worth. idk why they are so bad at this… the first one was at least pretty well balanced on hard after like the first act up until the optional endgame stuff which were both better on normal. the sequel is like… literally any deviation from the main quest is too hard on hard. Come on folks

it’s really good and extremely funny how furry horny it is. like if someone made an N64 demake of ragnarok online and gave everyone enormous honkers. i saw an animation from a previous game prototype by the same developer with graphic fucking that looks like bonetown.

I think it is just this guy and then the final run to the final boss and definitely not an absolute tedious world crossing scavenger hunt as if you haven’t been doing that the whole game.

I can’t remember- were the relics always obtainable pretty much as soon as you had the equipment to reach/uncover them, or was that a change they made for the Trilogy/Remastered?

Putting color coded enemies in the room with the Big Bad Pirate is just the worst.

the Plasma/Electro/Lamb & Turkey Pirates were just a misstep on the whole- they’ve got the same “Nuh-uh! I’m invincible!” energy you get from Doom Eternal’s Marauders.

tautology

unfortunately even though the poor rad codex guy is building on FNA of all things, his games are extremely not cross platform, it tries to install a bunch of old dotnet dependencies and dies on launch under whiskey, something that both I and the proton developers have spent enough time fixing in the past but are not about to invest in getting the game working on a modern Mac – which really should still be an FNA build target

got recommended this by steam yesterday and was completely stunlocked at how immediately obvious it was that the mmo-combat + speedrun movement tech, + furry art venn diagram is a perfect circle. like it’s so clear i’m astounded there aren’t a hundred games like this already.
