Games You Played Today ##RELOAD

I’d be willing to rethink my opinion of Blitzball if the people who seem to like it can muster a defense that’s more substantial than

or

I honestly haven’t played it outside of the game forcing me to do so, but even that felt like punishment.

My impression of it was at first “Hey, it’s kind of cool how they are RPG-izing a sportsy soccer-like”. The rest of the tutorial is both extremely condescending and very confusing, which seems contradictory but somehow they pulled it off. The game itself just feels so uninteractive, sludgy, and slow.

I’m not bothered if you dislike it, I’m just balancing out the forum by being someone who enjoyed Blitzball when I played it a decade ago. I also enjoyed Hot and Cold! If I ever replay these games, I’ll have to share my revised thoughts.

still slowly making progress in dark souls, i’ve killed 1 of the 4 lords! previously-mentioned new housemate who plays hella dark souls is really chill and i just accidentally sat on the couch with him for like 3 hours while he pvp’d and we just talked about the game. idk, i love the freedom that dark souls has – you can play any way you wanna play and be anyone you wanna be and still succeed. i’m really into that. hopefully i’ll beat it in the next couple of days!
also dabbling in smt: devil survivor overclocked and i’m pretty far in and it’s getting pretty tough but i’m doing my best to stay invested.

I have a lot of nostalgia for X, and many elements don’t hold up under closer scrutiny at this point, but I still maintain that it’s battle system is pretty excellent. The ATB bar has always been farcical, at least CTB adds some tactical depth in relation to speed stats/buffs rather than waiting for a gauge to arbitrarily fill.

Along with the weapon augments, the nature of the CTB form the basis for a lot of metagaming that really demonstrates how flexible the system can be. There are some seriously impressive no sphere grid runs that exploit the system to its fullest.

The standard sphere grid the US got really trivialised character growth by being a straight line (see http://i.imgur.com/bNgwofbl.png) but fortunately in PAL land we got the expert grid which opened a lot of opportunities for customisation (I guess this is present in the remaster).

The minigames are garbage though.

counterpoint, the setting of Final Fantasy X is nonsense that contradicts itself constantly and while it panders towards particular themes, it actively sabotages itself in this regard as well.

I hate everything about FFX. it is so bad. but it gave us FFX-2, which, in a more or less giant Fuck You to FFX’s melodrama, opens like this:

and is at least fun to play.

I bought the new prince of persia on my way home from work desirous of its curious environments only to realise that it is now eight years old and everything in my life has changed since I last played it. this left me a bit wistful and melancholy which is exactly how I like to feel of a weekend

so I am playing that while eating greek yoghurt

can’t you put blitzball games on autopilot and crank up the fast forward and then only pay attention to recruiting new characters and shit or did I dream that

It’s all about death except death is a meaningless concept within the actual setting (afterlife is a place anyone can visit at anytime, dead characters can wander around as fully functional people that believe they are alive forever.

So the setting is focused entirely on one concept but that concept does not exist in a practical sense within the context of the game.

I know I know, the same could be said of all religions, but still.

How is the gameplay like FFT at all?

this is the first time I’ve really been tempted to abuse my powers on this new forum and throw the nth “no, FFX is good” conversation directly into the void

I went to grad school with a girl who wrote a bunch of undergrad media studies papers on FFX and she wanted me to read them as a laugh and I just couldn’t do it
