Played through it yesterday with a 3 and 6 year old, they spotted some details l hadn’t, like how the sea horse and dragon were related
For some reason, reading these posts made me think of a game where you play as a slaughter-happy sociopath, but as he levels up his empathy increases and so despite becoming stronger he also becomes reluctant to actually engage in combat
what you’re talking about would be it’s own neat unique thing, but that is kinda what the genocide route in Undertale is supposed to be up until you hit the point of no return
I wish Undertale was more mechanically savvy in actually implementing this theme. Being genocidal doesn’t feel good or bad mechanically,it’s just kind of a slog. Maybe that’s the point but it doesn’t really reinforce the idea very well
Yeah, having played most of Drakengard (get all but ending E) the game just felt very scattered on that message. In setting Caim seems fairly justified in his genocidal rage as a whole empire is sacking his country for the sole purpose of ending the world as they know it. Whats more is they can’t be negotiated with as everyone is red eyes crazy. As this is a video game power fantasy, Caim is able to follow through on this. In this set up I just never felt that bad about killing what was in front of me knowing the stakes.
I think it was much more effectively pulled off in Nier in the section leading up to the Shadowlord fight where the true nature of the shades was laid bare (More so on the B route) it really struck me then that I was playing the part of a monster yet could not stop because if I did there wouldn’t be an ending and I wanted that closure even if it meant I had to keep playing that role.
Hopelessly addicted to Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia. It’s a turn-based RPG take on the Dissidia HP/BRV resource management system. There is gacha, but it is for weapons and not for characters, which can be obtained by completing story missions or limited time “lost chapter” events. Turning the setting to low power consumption sips a tiny bit of battery and it still looks pretty damn good. Just having a chill time on public transit trying to break the battle system.
Just got done with Titanfall 2’s single player campaign. I was really hyped up for it because I heard so much good about it and it ended up kinda falling short somewhere in the middle of it. My verdict then would have been that it’s good, even great, and it’s got excellent parts strewn throughout. I just expected even more excellence.
Now that it’s over I’m revising that and I’d say it left me feeling very positive about it. Yeah, it’s excellent.
It really picks up when you get gimmicks to play with and also the last stretch is just dope. It’s got that Portal 2 feeling at times.
What I didn’t like were the standard shooter parts. You can’t really headshot guys while wall running and I thought that was what the game was about. You sorta have to hang back a lot though and pick dudes off from a distance and from behind cover otherwise you get shredded to pieces. They should have done something about that. The movement system was really only utilized as separate sections of the game where you have to parkour around. Sorta like simple puzzles without enemies. I kept waiting for them to combine the shooting with the parkouring and it never happened.
It’s got some excellent, excellent guns though. Some are unlike anything I’ve ever played with. I mean, they are still shotguns and auto rifles but they’ve got a unique feel to them. The ones where they clearly give you too much power, or too high a fire rate, or too wide a spread are the ones I like! Those were great.
The story beats were expected and yet hit all the same. It got me emotional. And it was a satisfying ending even though they clearly hoped for a sequel.
There are over 600 people online playing mutliplayer right now, so I could probably get a few games going! I didn’t feel like it right after the campaign though, so maybe at another time.
The game is free with Origin Basic, which costs $25 or so per year. That’s really not a bad deal for all the stuff that’s on there. I mean, if you like AAA games. It also has Torchlight 2, which I always wanted to play and now that a sequel is on the way is the perfect time to try it out.
But yeah, Titanfall 2. Excellent game.
I’m downloading it. You monster, what have you done, I don’t need more mobile crap in my life
Obduction is 10 bucks so I bought it. I played it for like, three hours maybe. Then it blew my mind
OK I’m stuck now
That’s like the perfect adventure game curve right there.
Stuck is good. You can’t beat a Myst game in one sitting, that’s just not how it works.
Maybe you can’t
I need to rearrange my whole room to play this in VR ugh
Which difficulty did you play on? I played on the one below the hardest and as long as I kept my velocity high I was able to do a lot of melee and point-blank shooting.
Yeah I started out on that one too. It was pretty hard! I later dropped it down to Regular. Now I feel like I played the whole game wrong. I’ll revisit it later and try out some stuff again
Dusted off my long neglected Shield TV and installed about three years worth of updates to it, breaking at least a few games I bought for it years ago! Shit! Sorry Doom 3.
It’s…still pretty capable, I think, but god what a pain in the ass to set up. Between the input discrepancies of running Android mobile apps on Android TV, a whole mess of plug-ins and input settings, and the nightmare that is navigating RetroArch, I’m probably better off finally using this Ryzen APU I was given and building a low end emulation PC.
That said…it runs PSP games like a champ? PPSSPP just seems like a solid emulator all-around.
In conclusion - I installed the PBS app and watched like two hours of The Woodwright’s Shop. What a great show.
We should resolve to go completely FAQless and compare ingame playtimes at the end smartypants
there’s suddenly a ton of stuff I want to play and I’ve either bought or barely started a bunch of it, I don’t think I’ve quite overcommitted yet but I am perilously close
like I’m probably a little past the 2/3 mark of lost legacy (which, even as a gaiden, feels a little bit longer than necessary but is still actually very good), started that instead of last guardian and probably shouldn’t jump directly into another sony prestige carnival ride, still wanted to do the last few races of sprint vector but was waiting for polybius to come out on steam to do more VR stuff, just noticed the redone version of the long dark’s story mode has released this week, decided I was done with prey’s story mode but only completed one run of mooncrash so far and am really keen on doing more, I’ve only gotten to try siege’s new characters and level once and I like them a lot, and I just found myself this morning going “you know, this year’s FIFA is supposed to be the best since '12 and this is the first madden PC release in ages, maybe I’ll sign up for a month of EA’s premier service.”
feel like I’m dangerously close to becoming one of those comfortable middle aged men who appears excruciatingly enthusiastic because they have access to so many things they genuinely like
on the one hand this is reminiscent of the mentality that got me to play through new vegas and human revolution toward the end of last gen, which were two OKish games that I didn’t really like and I’m still conscious of how much time I spend on this hobby even if it does keep me out of trouble, but on the other I am still, like, extremely selective, I’m just in that pitiful “actually I like every genre” cultural position
