do i get this or talk myself into finally playing all the small games that already exist that i’ve been putting off for the last five years while exclusively playing old hundred hour monster hunters and shirens. hm
It doesn’t make any sense to be so excited about a bounty of great small-to-medium-sized games when we already had that but I’m super hyped anyway
Yeah but these ones look good
Infinite Wealth refuses to end no matter how much I play it
Is this the longest Yakuza, it fuckin feels like it
Yeah, this one is good. It’s actually very much like Uurnog Uurnlimited when you get down to the nitty-gritty. I just beat it in a marathon session, and I’m pretty sure it has alternative endings based on play time.
UFO 50 is very good. I gay gasped when I found the Garden.
One of the many reasons control rocks is how much of still doesn’t doesn’t totally make sense by the end. There are so many loose ends, even in the A-Plot, that they leave hanging while having a definite ending to the main thrust of the story. Remedy knows their shit.
I played like I don’t know 6 hours or something of personality disorder generator god of war 2018, felt like I did absolutely nothing the entire time. game is wall to wall in collectible horseshit you have to look in every corner for. that’s all the game is so far. I just want to be a guy (god of war and son) in a place (scandinavia) doing a thing (trying to get funerary ceremony done without picking fights with the locals), not play a brain washing program designed to develop ocd or kleptomania in the user. half the collectible list is still question marks, there’s shit to collect I haven’t even come across yet
3 minutes into hoshi wo miru hito some guy who could do like 11 damage to my level 1 character showed up and the game over screen was this
I played in Japanese like a week ago. The game is really stunningly badly made.
But the first random battle killing you is a weirdly common occurrence in JRPGs before 1993.
I think I had to reset 5 times before I got the right conbination of enemies to get to level 2.
yeah i got the impression it would probably be pretty unpleasant to play dedicatedly or to like seek progression out but as a weird collection of textures, sludginess, stuff to stumble upon in small bursts etc i thought it was compelling
Despite all the bizarre copyright hullabaloo from a while back, Cookie’s Bustle now has a full English translation proving that perhaps love can prevail…
There’s a bit of funkiness with how it works. It uses an external program to stick the subtitles on top of the game and sometimes the triggering gets a bit borked, causing random sentences to sneak themselves in alongside the regular subtitles, but it mostly works! I finished the whole thing!
Cookie Thoughts
What a pleasant surprise this was! Someone decided to mix a point n click adventure with a tamagotchi and add some sports mini-games just for good measure… The adventure parts are surprisingly frictionless, very few (if any) annoyingly obtuse puzzles that kill the pacing, you just kinda glide around from place to place discovering weird new jokes and set pieces like it were a sort of fever dream (my favourite type of game). The tamagotchi stuff isn’t too laborious or time-consuming and works more as a humourous reminder that the character you’re playing as is, in fact, a five year old girl and needs the toilet… The sports mini-games are by far the most needlessly finicky part of it and often require some highly specific timing or odd flailing motion in order to succeed at them, luckily there are only five total and once you succeed that’s that. It helped that any time I got too frustrated with one I could just head off and explore more and talk to some other characters or… stumble into a shoot-out between the police and a local resistance group??
The plot is Cookie Blair is a five year old girl (who thinks she is a bear) on her way to BOMBO WORLD in order to compete in its fictionalised version of the olympics but uh oh granny Nancy isn’t anywhere in sight, Cookie’s lost her ticket to the resort and there also seems to be some political unrest…
I don’t want to spoil where it all goes but needless to say it is SPELLBINDING! I wish they still made games like this. The end of the multimedia cd-rom era was a mistake - we need to go back. Highly HIGHLY recommended!
played the entirety of crow country on my friend’s couch and big oled ln… it was reasonably diverting i guess. reminded me a lot of a short hike idk i don’t really play games in this like console game tribute genre very much they often feel like a band that sounds a little too much like their influences. i thought it looked and sounded pretty sharp tho.
if anything it feels like games in this style are a little toothless / unwilling to have anything genuinely frustrating or clunky about them, which is often one of the things that is memorable and notable about the entire ps1 era of games imo!
i’ve mostly been playing Dreamcast games and Wukong, lately.
the lack of checkpoints in stages in Maken X makes that game a lot more challenging than it needs to be, but i still love it.
i bought Crazy Taxi for cheap because i never owned it when it came out. back then, it was like you couldn’t enter any public space without seeing a Crazy Taxi arcade cab, with The Offspring blasting out of its speakers. why would i buy Crazy Taxi when it was seemingly everywhere and would be forever?
well folks, one day Crazy Taxi disappeared
and when it returned, they took out all the advertising and pop punk
a real videogame tragedy, i’d say.
i really, really like Wukong. i enjoy that the game is more along the lines of DMC or Ninja Gaiden than Souls (although it certainly is also a little of that). i’ve been completely surprised by the music videos/animations, and all the other little touches and flourishes that give the game some life. in many ways, it feels a lot like an 8-bit game - maybe i feel that way because i beat Shadow of the Ninja Reborn a couple weeks ago, but i feel like the two have more in common than not.
Sitting here wondering how Incredible Crisis stacks up these days…
Been meaning to go back to that one! Never finished it I don’t think, possibly because some of the mini-games were a little difficult but I might revisit it just to confirm…
I can bring my disc to the meetup.
i am still not sure if this is true but i read that sega paid brands like tower records and pizza hut to feature their likenesses and logos in the game and not the other way around
There’s a mod on PC to restore it all, but it also adds like ten more Offspring and Bad Religion songs…ya just need the two of each. Gotta figure out how to fix that.
