I really got into 11 after not liking any other modern netherrealm stuff but after giving 1 like an hour I was like “nah, not doing it, don’t need a new one of these”
had the same experience with tekken 7 → 8 actually

I mean I guess I respect 1 for trying something new, but the “Kameo” system just kinda sucks, and apart from that wild bit near the end where you fight weird multiversal amalgamations of different MK characters, the story was just so damn boring.
No more multiverse…no more multiverse in anything for a while, please.
I’m also going to say that while the guest characters are always the thing that makes the most post-launch money for the MK games, no more of them, either. Last game to get cool ones was Injustice 2, but that may be my bias towards Hellboy and being able to use all four Turtles.
I have a question… is Cuphead a good game, apart from looking gorgeous? ![]()
Ehhhhhh. I didn’t like it.
Well, I didn’t enjoy it personally. It’s a boss-rush hell platformer that starts about as hard as late-game Hollow Knight bosses and ends about as hard as DLC Hollow Knight bosses.
The game seems intended for people who above all enjoy mastering bosses and don’t want any other game elements to distract from or dilute that. Within that narrow frame, it is well-designed (no unreasonable RNG or erratic hitboxes).
In an alternate timeline it’s the kind of game I might have rented once from Blockbuster
yeah pretty middle-of-the-road imo in terms of design; it’s competent but it’s not doing anything particularly inspired. does look pretty great though.
I think it’s okay, it’s a bunch of guys who like Felix the Cat and Gunstar Heroes too much and made a game
it’s retroactively parryslop
however it ruined discourse over game journalism to this day so I cannot recommend it on ideological grounds
The shooting feels like shit.
The three button parry is unnecessarily obtuse for something you are expected to do constantly.
I had an alright time playing it two player with my brother. It is quite intensely difficult but we did sorta end up developing a bit of an impassioned camaraderie together in trying to defeat each boss and there’s a nice sorta theme park ride feeling of spectacle to each new stage and bit of elaborate animation introduced.
Also two player lets you revive the other person quite easily if they die, making beating a boss a far more obtainable goal than I imagine it would be in single player. In fact, I’m not sure I would have got the same thrill from it solo at all. A lot of the fun we had was in strategizing what we would do next time around after dying and working out little plans together.
Probably a game that is very reliant on having another person around to get the most fun out of it…
Also probably worth mentioning both of us had significant history playing similar types of run’n’gun games together, so if that’s not your particular cup of tea (or the other person you’re playing with) then you might get a lot less out of it…
found this game fractal block world from some video on a bluesky post
it’s akin to inside a star-filled sky in that it’s infinitely recursive, though the rules for going up/down in the recursion tree are more complicated. it’s a 6dof game where you mostly shoot programmer art textured orbs (which make human-made foley when you do lol) while flying around an octree environment and indulge every little exploratory whim. you can also make your own “chunks” as mods to play. really clever and despite its simplicity i find the exploration really compelling. it’s clear the combat is just there to keep you from getting bored though, it’s not terribly well-crafted.
it’s a game for sickos and thankfully i am sickos. i love stuff like this. reminds me a lot of phr00t’s games.
unironically the best thing about Cuphead is the logic isn’t tied to framerate so you can play the game at 24hz and make the animation look perfect and it doesn’t affect playability (I mean, besides not having 60+ hz of response)
Truxton II, a good arcade shooting game but I cannot find Japan version. I need to beat the original one.
Cuphead seemed perfectly fine to me, the occasional run & gun levels were all mediocre and there were a couple bosses that gave me hell but for the most part it was a solidly executed boss rush game in that mold. If it didn’t have its aesthetic I don’t know that it’d have enough going for it to stand out mechanically on its own… but it’d got an all timer aesthetic.
I’ll probably buy the DLC one day.
it just felt like such a waste of that art style on a boss rush!
Looks like it is called Tatsujin Ou, if that helps. Doesn’t seem like there are many region differences aside from the title though.
That’s not what I read when I googled it. Japanese version said to be much harder. Uh let’s see okay for instance
Outside of Asian territories, Tatsujin Ou was released under the name Truxton II. In this international release, the player’s weapons deal more damage, and the enemies shoot less frequently than in Tatsujin Ou. The difficulty increase from loop 1 to loop 2 is also not as high.

Ah I finally found a review of the Steam (Bitwave) version–this would be the one on Steam as far as I know–that mentions version support:
When it comes to extras, Bitwave Games doesn’t skimp. Beyond the ability to play the different regional variations (EU, JP, and US), there’s access to simulated DIP switches […]

So if that’s right this should have the JP version–dunno why they don’t mention that stuff in their selling points:
And according to users there a post-release patch fixed the initial poor sound emulation.
See people said this and that’s probably why we got all those mediocre run & gun stages. If the only things they are good at are a neat art style and boss design then I’m fine with them just sticking with it. More devs should go “I’m only good/care about these things, so let’s just do that!”
