Feel like there’s probably loads of examples from music videos. People love putting fake video games into them!!
Journey to the Center of Hawkthorne
The Oasis could be pretty fun from Ready Player One but the book is a nightmare. Armada/Terra Firma as well.
Also Star Citizen lol
This one doesn’t really count but it’s cool anyway.
In the movie Hackers, the video game that Dade and Kate play early on in the film is called “Global Thermonuclear War”. It’s a pre-rendered (alpha, non-playable) demo for what eventually became the most amazing IP of futuristic racing game, besides F-ZERO, called: WIP3OUT (wipeout), developed initially by Psygnosis.
The concept of Wipeout was first discussed during a pub conversation, when a Psygnosis staff member, Jim Bowers, envisioned creating a futuristic racing game which featured anti-gravity ships.[1] Some elements of the game were inspired by Matrix Marauders, an Amiga game released by the Liverpudlian studio in 1990. A beta version of Wipeout appeared in the cult film Hackers, in which the game is played by the protagonists in a nightclub. The game’s appearance in the film led to Sony purchasing the studio in the months after its release.
This one only counted for about two weeks in 1995. Hackers released September 15, 1995 in the US. Wipeout came out September 29, 1995 in Europe alongside the release of the PS1 there.
Edit-I just saw the other thread where Mikey posted this exact clip lol.
Same for the Polybius urban myth
I thought about doing Existenz but all the footage of the “game” is just real life actors acting, isn’t it? Doesn’t look like a video game.
Doug’s Super Prentedo SPACE MY4L ( Space Munks)
Spacemunks seems like it should be a chipmunks in space type game but there is no reference to to any sort of ground squirrel in the game’s graphics.
Im starting to think that maybe Doug had like 3 art teams that didnt talk to each other.
Brutal overscan on this set (also why is his hand yellow now??)
Ok I figured it out he has yellow gloves and a cylindrical flight stick in his imagination so the TV shot is a combination of imagination and actual POV.
actual controller
the music when the system is revealed has a tiny mario world reference in it.
The episode’s message is that games are basically child crack.
I wanna see Bag the Nematoad
wishing there was a coffin flop tie-in xbla game now
“Whiffle Boy” from Darkwing Duck
The characters, of course, get transported into the game
These were all plausibly on the xblig marketplace
Bag the Nematoad is in a different episode (the one where Doug spends all his money for Patti’s gift on playing Bag the Nematoad (arcade))
you know, he makes her a towel rack instead
the other fake Doug game is the arcade game Doug gets his sister Judy to play to get her to learn how to parallel park
Nice douglore
The only reason I even recall this doug game is that “Super Pretendo” has been lodged in the back of my brain forever.
