In conjunction with the release of Aridjis Fuentes’ documentary film Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus, Sacred Bones is releasing a collection of songs that span the entirety of Q’s career, showcasing the different eras of her work and the full breadth of her personality. Released in collaboration with the family of Q, this holds the distinction of being her first and only full-length release.

My friend got me the LP of Crazy Doberman’s Everyone is Rolling Down A Hill for my birthday and it’s really fucking good. I think early pandemic era releases are kind of the mood I need at the moment with everything going on.

Been reading this 600 page book about Jamaican Music so have been really enjoying this Nyahbinghi style drumming where drums take the melody. It is cool.

what’s the book

Bass Culture when Reggae was King. Written around 2000. It is okay, I’m coming off reading a 600 page book about the history of Cuba and this book tells the facts but does a poor job of setting up what is Jamaica/Kingston. It’ll often compare an area of Kingston with a part of London with no further explanation. Thanks bud. There’s good stuff in it. I’m on page 100 or so and they are finally getting to ska and it is just a list of songs and names to track on youtube and it is very cool in 2025 I can just pull up any song mentioned.

It is funny to think about that early ska as transgressive or that the live playings wanted more bass, for…that?

Funniest part has been “ska was a 4 year fad and then music moved on.”
