i decided to get all my jobs up to 30 so i never have to think about low level equipment again and its fun i love how fast levelling is from 1-30 its like playing a different game

yeah, it’s also one of the few times i’ve ran a dungeon w a friend where we are both new to it. this dude was getting very shouty at us, and then when we had to wait for my friend to reset her pc, he kept talking about how toxic this server was.

I’ve been playing this for an hour or so every day for the past week, and enjoying it. Saw some nice combinations of mist and trees around Gridania today, made me think about buying Shadowbringers or another month of play time after the free trial wears out. Hopefully there’s more nice graphics in other areas.
I had my first instanced battle today, and i had a lot of trouble targetting the enemies i wanted to. There were several enemies attacking me at once and … idk maybe i just panicked. Sometimes i seem to end up scrolling thru enemies using d-pad left/right and not being able to easily select the one i want.
Also i wish there were more to the game in terms of physical positioning … Is there more? I’m playing an archer, I start fighting from distance, but if i fall back too much the monster goes invulnerable, so with tougher monsters i end up standing next to them exchanging numbers. Sometimes the monsters seem to have an attack which displays an orange zone, i guess you can avoid it by moving out of the zone.

I’m pretty confused about what i should buy though, I’m on the PS4. Should i buy Shadowbringers while it’s cheap, is playing as Viera the only reason to have it before i reach a high level?
I guess I’ve had my 30 free days so there’s no point buying the Complete Edition and i just want the Shadowbringers expansion?
Or do i even own the base game at all, so i need the complete edition?
I can’t download the starter edition, it says i have FFXIV A Realm Reborn Standard Edition already.
Or can i carry on playing until level 35 without buying a subscription anyway??

there’s definitely a lot more beautiful environments in the expansions, shadowbringers in particular has some of the best work there.
the targeting stuff i would say you will get used to, but if there’s 3 or more enemies, i’m generally just spamming AOE attacks. there’s a decent cone one you will get as an archer.
there’s not really too much positioning based attacks as archer/bard, but you have a lot of freedom to move around as you don’t have cast times and don’t need to be in melee range. the orange cones/circles are the main types of attacks you will be dodging, but later instances/bosses will bring in more mechanics along those lines.

i wish i could help you with what version to pick up next, but that whole thing is a mess and very hard to understand. i guess at some point i tried this game before i actually got properly into it, so my normal email wasn’t accepted when i bought starter edition. that means the account i have have 400+hrs on is linked to a burner email address and im not sure i even know the password. terrified i will lose access to it all one day.

oh i see, that makes it a bit clearer, i have a license for A Realm Reborn on the PS4 so i guess i do have the base game.
EDIT seems like probably i can’t go back to the free up-to-level 35 trial once the free 30 days runs out …
there are few melee jobs like monk and dragoon that encourage you to land different attacks from the rear or flank for more damage. monk is particularly heavy on positional attacks, so if you like moving around in melee you might check out pugilist? ranged physical jobs like archer get the unique perk of freely moving around in exchange for generally doing lower damage than the rest of the dps jobs. i love playing them specifically so i don’t have to worry about positioning other than staying relatively close to a healer in party stuff
xiv’s difficulty & complexity curve for combat is very gentle & will probably feel a little simplistic thru early levels, but eventually you’ll be constantly repositioning to avoid area of effect attacks and terrain gimmicks while also regularly using 15-20 skills to do your job’s thing
also hi! if you’re on the Faerie server we have an free company (what xiv calls player guilds) you’re welcome to join, a lot of us like doing low level dungeons with new folks & you’ll get some nice leveling & gil saving buffs just for being in it even if you’re doing solo stuff

we went to a few places, but OF COURSE ended up back at the house of illos, our regular stomping grounds. you may remember it as the place upthread where Tiger Mountain (hobo) had someone take a pussy expanding potion so she could fit all of his seed. then when she was nice and pregnant he left for cigarettes but never came back
gilbert (closed) sent me a tell in game asking 'hey are we gonna do anything special for tiger? its almost fathers day" AND BOY HOWDY WAS I EVER

out of NOWHERE as we were all sitting around (except for pookia who had to run an errand really quick, the life of a free company leader is full of duty) a tiny child walks in. saying 'hello? im looking for my father? i think i was made here"

AND THEN TINY FOUND TIGER!!! so tiny jumped up on the bar and confronted his father. THIS IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROOM WHERE EVERYONE IS TRYING TO FUCK and there is a stupid bald baby asking daddy for love. tiny asked tiger mountain what his mothers name was and TIGER COULDNT ANSWER IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE BAR. eventually tiny overheard bar patrons talking about pleasure and asked his father if he would teach tiny what pleasure was because tinys been so lonely without a family and just wanted tigers love and affection. tiger still couldnt answer, and people were starting to leave the club in droves. i think it was hard to get your fuck on when a confused child is standing in the bar with you crying at their shirtless father. but tiny got invited to the BUTTS free company to hopefully be able to keep in touch with his father more. we couldnt find out where tiny lived exactly, but tiny described it as a ‘stool-soaked shanty’ so we believe that hes staying in a chocobo stable at an abandoned plot in the lavender beds
we’re not sure but we think tinys adventures havent ended here, happy fathers day!
