Final Fantasy XIV

its worth noting that bahamut is only soloable up until the final encounter of the second turn, where you do need at least 4 ppl for mechanics. all of final coil is soloable iirc

yeah i tried to get people doing the coils back when i was active and it was all totally breezy except T9 which took like, three groups over several weeks to get down

I really wanted ocean fishing to involve the boat actually moving…still though, it’s charming and chill and pretty lengthy if you manage to register in time.

NO!! MORE!! FETCHQUESTS!!!

anyone have much experience with coming back after a long break? i’d just finished the main stormblood campaign and auction housed my rdm to the kind of gear level where i could do some of the raids and solo odin to get ~ sick glamours ~ before i dropped off last march

i absolutely binged the fuckin’ thing in a couple of months between jobs and played most of arr/heavensward as a tank on a double exp server so it was all very quick

guess i’m kinda wondering how viable it is to just load up my character and re-learn things without the gentle 80 hour tutorial of arr

i came back after a month and a half of not thinking about ff14 and ive been doing fine readjusting idk if that counts as long though

yeah a lot of the messier cruft on each class was sanded down at 5.0, it’s honestly probably easier to get in now than ever, especially if you’re already through stormblood

I came back after ARR right when Stormblood was coming out (so a gap of a few years) and it wasn’t too bad. As long as you don’t immediately hop into a dungeon or raid first thing you should be fine. All you have to do is look at your action bar, get rid of the icons that no longer exist (they’ll have red lines through them), open your “Actions” screen and add in whatever new moves they added for your class while you were gone, then go beat up some generic mobs til you relearn your rotation. Shouldn’t take long at all!

if it helps, RDM probably changed the least of any job in 5.0. you’ve got an aoe rotation that isn’t just spamming scatter, a way to avoid accidentally backflipping off cliffs, and a new button in yr mana combo at 80. otherwise it’s basically the same but with more damage

What is the best way to engage with FF14 as a person who played about 2 hours of A Realm That Needed To Be Reborn and nothing else?

Wait until 5.3 comes out.

RDM is a fantastic class to get back into the game with for sure! Easy rotation, not too many buttons, has cool hats

yeah i might get back to it when im done with My Backlog

xiv is probably the only online game ive played where taking a break or being years behind is tenable

to expand on this they’re making the story a lot shorter by taking out unnecessary quests so if you’re not through ARR it might be worth to wait til they make it better

Would this be what I want to get if I wanted to start now?

https://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Online-Complete-PlayStation/dp/B071NFMKR2

And from what I understand if I get this I’ll be locked into FF14 PS4 unless I buy the PC version?

Edit:

lol so this???

that looks like it doesnt have shadowbringers, so youd have to buy that on top

I cancelled my WoW subscription because grinding for corruption gear is tedious and annoying.
