i fully admit 2.0 is awful. if the rebuilds weren’t complete trainwrecks it wouldn’t be evangelion imo!! still looking forwards to 3.0+1.0, which i’m sure is going to be very coherent and watchable

oh believe me i’m fine with trainwrecks and take the aesthetic intentionality of trainwrecking very seriously it’s just that 2 was the boring kind of trainwreck. also yeah i harbor a probably misguided unshakeable certainty that 3.0+1.0 will be great but it could just as easily be nothing. we’ll find out soon i guess! i wonder if they’ll end up premiering it online or something or if june 27th is late enough that isolation restrictions will have let up/will there even be enough theaters left open at that point

I keep having people expect me to be offended over some part of this (which is fundamentally sad, like they think that if I’m this snob somehow then surely I must closely guard final fantasy vii of all things) and the worst part is that it still looks like, fine to me. deeply inessential, sure! like, choosing to play this is signaling nothing other than that you’re curious about the final fantasy remake! there is nothing of note going on here! but it seems fine.
I’m being made to feel like a loathsome european aesthete who can’t tell the difference between die hard 3 and die hard 4
