It looms large in the memory because it’s obviously the coolest part but both by playtime and script share it’s like 10% of the game

This is maybe the most beautiful game I’ve ever seen? I immediately dropped and deleted it after the first difficult boss though (Airbuster)
I just hate the battles… The game worked fine with just Cloud at the beginning, but the menu micromanagement with three people is just too much. When all my ATB bars are full in this game I do not think « great I’ll be able to unleash 6 skills at once » but « oh no I have to use 6 skills, this will take so long »
This game has somehow screwed up Wait For The Bar To Full Up To Get Some Dopamine by rewarding the player with only misery once the bar is filled
I heavily dislike how the game defaults to Cloud, reverting back to Cloud after every battle and forcing you to press a button to switch to another character at the beginning of every battle
Also lol at the game’s pro-environmental, anti needless consumption message when Squeenix just sold the Tomb Raider licence to finance Bored Cid NFTs

iirc, you can set other characters to be the main chara in battles, so even when you switch back to Claudoh after each battle, it sticks w/ your battle-main.
Playing most of the game as Tifa (when possible) was ace, because her french dub was tres bien, and it reminded me a bit of Godhand, so idk, maybe give it a second chance?

Glad that they’re announcing it’ll just be three games, because it might actually wrap up this decade, but I’d also say there’s a 30% chance that there’s a “Part III volume 2” (or “Reverence: Final Fantasy VIII Reincarnation-2”). Also excited
I’m pretty much expecting the remainder of the series to be self-indulgent navel-gazing nonsense that may bear no resemblance to anything, but I’m probably okay with that.
I am glad that Crisis Core is gonna get some new life instead of being stranded on the PSP. Crisis Core is dumb in a not insignificant number of ways, but I like it. I just hope they don’t rewrite the ending to keep it in like with the FF7R series rather than FF7 itself.
Whee. I’ve loved this game for a quarter of a century.

there’s a secret jp-only disc 4 that has artwork for every piece of equipment and item in the game, plus profiles for every party member, summon, and enemy, plus rotatable 3d models of every vehicle, plus a bunch of concept art and a documentary (that i didn’t watch because i assume its in japanese. and you can go to every location in the game and see little inconsequential things like what the turtle’s paradise flyers look like
