I don’t know, I feel like it had a good run. 5 years of support in the arcades, with two years of support on consoles. That’s pretty long in my book! Just on console it had at least 10 dlc characters, and probably 5 or more new levels (those are free). I think there was one new summon also? They said the release pace was slowing last year so I figured it had to be winding down.
A lot of people hated it on concept alone (3v3 instead of 1v1), a lot of people disliked the lack of single player content (I can get behind this, even though I don’t care for a full scale RPG mode that’s usually at the center of such a conversation), and boy did it deserve better netcode, but I had a ton of fun with the game.
I don’t think any other melee based PvP game felt as good to hit people in. Maybe that’s part of why the netcode sucks, but as an action game it a great game feel. And as an overall game I dont think there’s anything else quite like it. They did such a great job reimagining Dissidia’s already unique and wild battle system into something just I personally consider more fun and better paced than the PSP games, which had the RPG battle system design of “interactable but also easily auto-piloted” since it had to fit the pace of the RPG modes. Dissidia AC/NT was much more engaging to me as a battle system, and I didn’t just sit back and let my equipment carry me as I mashed attack not did battles devolve into back and forth evades.
