I feel like I might like Killer Instinct more than SF V. SF V is like a safety scissors game, where it’s balanced because every character sucks equally. Killer Instinct is the opposite where it’s balanced because everyone can do crazy shit. It’s like Omega SF IV with combo breakers. I like the combo breakers I guess. I would rather I can do something instead of nothing. There’s no downtime in this game unless you get locked out or it’s between rounds or games.
I still don’t quite grasp the mind game of the combo system. Like I get the goal is to lock people, especially via counterbreaker, but I have no idea how to encourage that. I’ll get there.
I still think it’s visually drab and some of the characters are pretty dumb but at least the tone of the game is fun. Someone on here said Killer Instinct looked like a game you’d see a kid playing on Law and Order, which is a fair assesment. Overall a lot more tolerable than Mortal Kombat.
I also feel like Killer Instinct footsies is more SF than SF V. I can actually whiff punish shit. Someone whiffs a sweep or something in V I hit Karin’s standing forward or sweep and they’re already blocking or besides it doesn’t lead anywhere. In KI I can convert Kim Wu’s giant standing strong into a combo anywhere from 15 to 50%. I like it.
I think between this, KoF XIV, and I hope someday a new Samurai Shodown, I could drop SF V as my main game.
I’m mothmanspirit on Xbox Live if anyone wants to play.
