i stopped playing as shotos when i was about 8 years old, because i was the only kid who knew how to do a hadouken, which made the other kids mad, and made the bigger kids want to beat me up. fast forward to last wednesday, when i was playing third strike with my pro-level friend. i was getting my ass kicked a bunch playing as hugo because none of my usf4 strategies work in that game. so, as a joke, because it’s not like i was really winning, i switched over to ryu. and it turns out i got good with him really quick? and he’s really fun to play? now i’m sort of lamenting avoiding these characters for so long because i didn’t want to be yelled at as a kid.
fighting games rule. i’ve definitely come a long way from “GODDAMMIT WHY CAN’T I BE GOOD AT SFV???”

You can play the upcoming Gundam Vs game for free on PS4 every Friday & Saturday until 7/30, when the game comes out.

Fightcade apparently got a big rewrite update a couple weeks ago. The old ‘Fightcade 2 Beta’ replaced with a new FBNeo backend, adds lobby support for other non-finalburn emulators (with their own separate netplay code), today announced that they added run-ahead support into FBNeo, etc.
Gotta be a patreon backer to try out at the moment, afaik, but cool.

The sequel to the KOF Destiny web series got revealed yesterday, a movie called KOF Awaken. Destiny was surprisingly good with fantastic fight choreography so I’m looking forward to this.
Maybe also a sign that KOF15 will get shown tonight on the fighting game dev roundtable stream?

That reminds me, we also got a GG Strive trailer for Nagoriyuki (the new vampire samurai guy) and Leo last weekend.
The game looks kinda super slow in the last couple trailers. I guess it was harder to notice earlier because there were mostly comparatively fast characters.
Did Dan ever become a viable character in SFIV? Can’t imagine any company spending the resources to make a joke character these days.
