Zack Snyder should’ve been a carpenter

Forgot what thread I was in and could only parse BVS as Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I’m sure I’ve posted about this before, or forced someone(s) to listen to me talk about this on a Podcast Line before, but there’s this image in Justice League that screams Zack Snyder like nothing else: camera pulls out through one entrance of Magical Amazon McGuffin Temple while these two absolutely ripped, massively muscled bodybuilder-looking women in Amazon Togs pick up giant hammers and smash the pillars to either side making the roof cave in.

Snyder is a bone-deep fascist. He loves presenting power and the exercise of power and the complications that arise from Doing Power Things but Hey, Sometimes A Powerful’s Gotta Power. Snyder is cinema’s “Moderate” Republican Dad Who Has No Idea How Reactionary His Instincts Are Deep Down and he needs to throw up Big Powerful Bodies doing Big Powerful Things and anyway he’s kind of a distillation of the American id so I can’t help but find him fascinating (I am forever drawn to sticking my entire head into pools of Gross Weird Masculinity) and also this is why Sucker Punch didn’t work at any level + how we know all the ass shots of Wonder Woman were definitely added by Whedon don’t forget to preorder Triumph of the Will to Power: How Zach Snyder Turned Beef Into Billions coming soon to a kindle marketpla–

“‘The Fountainhead’… It’s still important to me, but it’s a really touchy subject right now,” said Snyder. “People will think it’s hardcore right-wing propaganda, but I don’t view it like that. I just think the story is super fun and crazy and melodramatic about architecture and sex.”

The novel tells the story of Howard Roark, a young architect that refuses to conform to the traditions of his trade and strives to be an innovator in the field.

He continued, “It’s about time we get a different president so we don’t take shit so seriously!”

The potential controversy surrounding a ‘Fountainhead’ film rests heavily on the shoulders of author Ayn Rand. Due to the popularity of her writing, and the ideas formulated in her books, Rand has become a bit of a figurehead for modern Libertarianism. And in today’s politics, many folks that follow Rand’s political views are seen to be far-right and alt-right. As you might expect, that’s the type of content that isn’t probably going to be the most popular in 2019.

That being said, Rand, during her life, rejected the labels of Libertarian and Conservative, even when her ideas seemed to venture in that realm. But for Snyder, he looks at Rand differently than most.

“I think she’s incredible and insane and she’s always said story first, not regarding her politics,” said the filmmaker. “But it was easy for her to fall victim to her own popularity, and she drank her own Kool-Aid.”

He continued, “She didn’t give a fuck. If she was alive right now she would’ve fucking murdered Donald Trump . She didn’t even like Reagan! She thought he was a nationalist. But I’m rambling now, sorry!”

sure Zack

I’m sorry it’d be one thing if this was a quote from Noted Idiot, Zack Snyder but what the fuck kind of editorial summary of Fountainhead is this

The novel’s protagonist, Howard Roark, is an individualistic young architect who designs modernist buildings and refuses to compromise with an architectural establishment unwilling to accept innovation.

When you have ten minutes to bang out your blogonewsicle about Zack Snyder you reword the second sentence of the wikipedia article I guess.

I think I’ve said this on here before but: 21 Jump Street is one of the best comedies and surprised the heck out of me.

Up to the point of its release: I had not been a fan of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum was just some whatever guy. So, I was not at all interested in the movie. But my eldest brother brought it over to watch one day and its one of the great, modern physical comedies. I laughed so much.

And just now in this moment, realizing Brie Larson was in that!

The sequel is solid, too! Maybe nearly exactly as good? Could be one of those situations where, when you see nearly the same thing again, its not quite as funny. But the sequel could easily have been shit and it isn’t.

I’ll be honest, I’m almost interested to was Zach make an Ayn Rand movie because God only knows what he would do with her “rape is the only moral kind of sex” stance.

It wouldn’t be good at all.

I think 2014 is my favourite year for film overall. It’s crazy just much interesting stuff was released that year and was probably the only time I paid extra attention to the Oscars.

I also think that year shaped the current state of cinema!

This is also my first time posting. Nice to meet you all!

Good list I some how forgot about inherent vice but I remember thinking I’d enjoy it more on second viewing, which I never got around to.

I haven’t heard of these, what are they like?

Inherent Vice took me three viewings to fully understand the intricacies (or just how un-intricate it actually is) of the plot. Defo watch it again!

‘Happy as Lazzaro’ is about a very simple boy.
There aren’t enough films about simple boys.

It has a couple of moments of magical realism that are really well implemented, they’re really neat subtle ideas that shake up the plot and service the character studies really nicely. I don’t want to say too much about it. It was really cool going in blind with this one.

Also I think it was inspired by ‘Miracle in Milan’ which is also worth checking out (also a film about a simple boy).

‘Wild Tales’ is a collection of short films about characters feeling extreme emotions and making in the moment snap decisions. All of the shorts are really varied and can get pretty dark but are balanced with equally dark comedy.
