Fading Brakelight Obscurity III - Green-Orange-Checkered Edizione (Part 3)

First live footage of the free roam map set in a ~1500 square km area around the Nordschleife to be included in the 1.0(?) release of Assetto Evo. Seems like it will be cool, nice big real-world location with thousands of professional man hours in a realistic sim. Data apparently sourced from direct Lidar scans and government survey data.

Also, though, can’t help but feel…underwhelmed at the prospect of it being, almost certainly, the only such location they’ll be able to produce at least for the next handful of years. In general, game continues to look visually worse than the Asseto 1 mod-community’s state of the art from 5 years ago.

They’ve said in the recent past that mod tools and scope will be revealed in “early access release 6”.

Kunos you should have put your physics engine into Unreal 5, launched it with zero content and let the weirdos build your game for you it would have been better.

First hands-on impressions of Assetto Rally also coming out from various people. Jake here mentions that some of the Supernova devs are current-day RBR players, and have publicly declared their intent for the game is full-realism. Good signs. More lip service to the idea of mod support, but no confirmation. They seem committed to laser-scanning the tracks for this game, which means it is never going to have a ton of stuff to drive in it. Also refusing to confirm proper mod support. At least they got the game engine right on this one.

Should put 100% of dev time from here on out into creating a large quantity of environmental biome art sets and a fully algorithmic, infinite length tolerant random stage generation engine.

ACEvo will get sustained just because of this single free-roam map, they seem to have a good idea what their modding community is up to.

And with the AC Rally game seemingly hell-bent to tick the right boxes from the get-go (who puts RBR in their profile, that’s middleaged Salaryman territory by now!) this either feels like a company best in tune with their audience, or the madness of enthusiasts is finally taking reign over sustainability in a gaming market that seems to put their well-tenured driving series to rest one-by-one.

(quick, what was the last major headline/former system selling racing game/sim release on consoles?….. yeah, me neither, I would nominate Forza 8, but last year there was at least that shiny high budget game outduelled by TXR (in early access) according to active players stats)

Don’t really want to drive a racecar around. I really want to drive a Mazda MX3 in traffic with a Dodge Neon.

were neons actualy bad cars or were people just mean about them? I remember when they were new they’d get shit on left and right but I LOVE their logo

same question but for the geo metro

Neons were very good cars. They were just affordable and cute so they got shit on at the time. The Nepn ACR was a respectable track car and the Neon SRT4 was a BEAST. We don’t realize how good we used to have it :frowning:

Even the base Neon was dependable and got great gas mileage and was fun to drive and looked good.

They were good… for a Dodge.

If you can stand Brian’s Tangents and lava ringed sometimes tasteless jokes, both these reviews (especially the Metro) explain what’s so good about them. I’ll post when I get to my PC because I just can’t successfully post well from mobile anymore.

is this the guy who made the vaguely racist escalade video?

That sounds like a possibility! I’ll have to watch their Escalade review.

Yeah, Neons were alright, especially for how cheap they were. Super tiny, but that was OK in that range. A friend’s huge Catholic family had one that belonged to all the teenagers in the family when we were in high school and that car got through a lot of dumb shit.

yeah every time a US company tried to make Japanese cars in the 90s the result was like, kind of sad and slightly less good than an actual Japanese car, but also never worse than a B/B+
