I really love how the screenshots came out for this. it just looks really nice. What a neat experience this is!
OK WHO PLAYING THIS SHIT TONIGHT
My next likely time is probably Wednesday or Fri/weekend evening I’m afraid.
Half this game is juggling adult schedules.
Played this game in a group of 6 today. What a lovely, refreshingly creative and charming concept, and very well executed. It really does immerse you in the feeling of exploring some mysterious, new place with a group of friends, splitting up and rejoining as your moods and inclinations diverge and merge, working together or going off to check something out with one of your buddies while the others figure out whatever their own current focus is. Lovely.
I loved that as soon as Tulpa and I both realized we could mount the sign on the backpack, we knew what had to be done.
This felt really special. Like when I played PSO for the first time, or Demon’s Souls. A very rare thrill that I always suspect I’ll never feel again. I’m sure there’s other stuff doing proximity voice chat but I dunno, can’t think of anything I’ve tried that made me want to talk like this. Or figure out my tools! There was a point when a few of us were on top of one mountain and I was using a laser pointer to direct folks on the other side of the valley towards puzzle locations but then Closed pushed me off the ledge* and I went tumbling far far down and I lost the laser pointer and the climb back up was a pain in the ass and solving the puzzle was way harder without the laser pointer but I loved it, that is going to be a memory I treasure. Don’t get many of those in games!! Always makes one wonder why aren’t more of them like this!! This shit is simple!! I mean it’s incredibly difficult to execute well but all I could think was I feel more apart of this world than this character than I have with any billion dollar game and that’s damning.
Like folks used to go gaga over Hal Foster and yeah his draftsmanship was wonderful but who talking about Prince Valiant nowadays. Everyone loving Ernie Bushmiller though…people appreciating him more now than back in the day…that’s a nice thought maybe…and none of these mega-bucks games are 1/10th as artistically worthwhile as Prince Valiant but y’knwo what I mean? Y’know what I mean. Nancy is still great. Anyway I’m rambling but I love this game even though I spent a lot of it falling off ledges and resting on stumps cuz I wandered off and lost everybody. And I’m fine with it! That’s part of adventure, which is my favorite thing in games yet the hardest thing to find . . . real adventure . . . ahhhh
*OK it was my fault I’m sorry but I’m glad I fell it was very funny
Having played two sessions now with different groups, here are some basic details about how co-op works, in case anyone is curious but not curious enough to look beyond this thread:
- Up to 12 players can join a session.
- Cross-platform seems to work just fine.
- The host has to share a code with anyone not on the same platform. (If you’re on the host’s friend list on the same platform you can just jump in, unless they’ve specifically password locked the session.)
- The host is the one with the save file.
- It’s not a problem if you join a session late. In fact, I think one fun aspect of the game is being off on your own and having to wander around and find other players. You can’t even tell how many players there are. (Maybe the host can. I’ve never hosted.)
- It’s not a problem if you join a group that’s played a session or two before without you. You might miss out on a few puzzles, but that’s going to happen eventually anyway if the group splits up at all.
- Starting over with a new group is fun even if you’ve seen some things before. I’ve basically gone through the same parts (with some variations) twice now, and I’d do it again. Things seem to become increasingly non-linear as you progress.
Host does get access to a ‘moderation menu’ so they can see who’s in but it doesn’t ping an update when people join or leave. I think it’s just so they can mute ‘difficult players’
Gonna try and do another session maybe tomorrow 2026-08-11T22:00:00Z or 2026-08-12T22:00:00Z unless those are bad days for most people? We’re very early into the island and would be fun to get a big group going now people have more experience of the space. Friends of SB-ers welcome.
Otherwise gonna have to aim for Fri/Sat.
12th is bad for me but tomorrow would be OK
upon thinking about this game, there’s only one thing I want slightly different and I haven’t checked to see if it’s an option, which is to make you hold the button for a shorter period of time to lock your arms into the “up” position while carrying something.
Otherwise I’d have to play more, and oh boy do I want to!
Toggle is an option I use.
I’m gonna act on 2026-08-11T22:00:00Z being the next gathering for now and might follow up with a weekend host.
That 5 minute waiting room might be my favourite puzzle so far
Not at all surprising.
