Having beaten the game now, I can say that there are only three notes that are off sync. The first two are at the group dance part of it, and the third is after the song is over. All are deliberate, 2/3rds can be handled visually or by some broader than musical kinesthesia which is harder to describe but very familiar to me as a music gamer. Only the last note requires memorization, which is again very poetic in context.
