Oh I remember reading about this on the dead website arcade-gear.com let me dig up this from archive.org:
Japanese ‘You Are The Hero’ style ‘Adventure Game Book’ inspired by the world of Space Harrier , entitled ‘White Dragon Hero’.
The story is set directly after the game - the ‘White Dragon’ of the title refers to the one that appears at the end of the game.
Apparently it was published January 1989 the same week as the famicom port…287 pages wow

Big fan of whoever photoshopped this 3DO box art. The original box is better, and funnier, but someone went through the effort to Scooginize it further and to me that is the funniest thing.
