had to do a clean reinstall three times and manually edit ini files to get this thing to even work, every conversation is a fucking pamphlet some guy in a personality cult hands you at every single protest, you’re able to make peace with the white nationalist gang hoarding food by saying the equivalent of “have you considered socialism”, and you find common ground about a shared hatred of the “globalists.” the first thing you do in the tutorial is kill a cat and eat it.
other deus ex mods are cringy, dated, and offensive in typical ways. This one was made by an unhealthy mind
I sorted the order I would play through these total conversion mods based on how bizarre they seemed, and I only have one more mod to go after this
don’t think I’m going to finish terminus machina because it is not actually enjoyable in any way except as a thing to take a thousand screenshots of and then deleting all the ones that make liberal use of gamer words
Oh by the way I loved the conversation you can overhear between two parents of an adult child who recently joined up with the MJ12 occupational force in Paris. The dad is like a full liberties patriot who is basically saying that his son is dead to him, while his wife cries that at least in the coming decade when they inevitably cease full control that their son will have a safe life. He retorts that he would rather he die with his family than sign up with the oppressors of liberty for a decent salary. She despairs that the two of them can’t think like that, they can’t abandon their son. You can talk to the dad and get the email and password to a MJ12 terminal up the street, which causes her to say that the husband is going to get their son killed. To this he says something like, he’s an adult. He should know this is the risk when he signed up to play soldier. He He isn’t our son anymore: this week his new friends killed someone for publishing an article in a magazine. Next week he’ll come home to murder us.
And this was just crazy to see play out in a videogame. It had none of the camp qualities you would notice if you overheard this in a game today, I think. I was really impressed by how sad the situation was, the resignation and the passion despite the low poly models and unprofessional VO.
paris i feel is like the most depressing part of the game because mj12 seemingly has the most control there, they’re allowed to operate openly, almost everyone you’ve talked to has had a family member killed or tortured or imprisoned by them, even the kids are like yeah they took my mom hostage recently so now I’m hanging out with resistance fighters in the catacombs, it feels like they were very much trying to invoke some la resistance shit in those maps which is funny cuz the mj12 guys even have the nazi color scheme down pat
Definitely the case I think. I thought of this when Chad (the ostensible leader of the resistance in Paris) says that barely any of his people even had a gun to fire back with when they got routed into the catacombs by the MJ12 now sporting brown uniforms.
Alright. Wrapped up my playthrough. It definitely becomes a bit more monotonous after maybe reaching Everett’s, but it is of course still lots of fun. Didn’t love Area51. Though it is really cool to me if there are two versions of the surface map, depending if you hit the site with a missile or not.
I was real low on resources and was planning on allying with the AIs anyway, so it was nice to see that was also the path of least resistance especially since I had reached the peak of my desire for the game to be over.
Maybe besides allying with Tong, the ending where you fuse with Daedalus/Icarus/Helios seems the least fucked up…. but it it is still fucked up. Just a nightmare situation over all.
Also I love the way JC responds to each of these propositions every time with “I’ll think about it” like she is being polite to someone pressing her to sign a petition in public while in the middle of doing something else.
