Demon's Souls January/February Book Club

Remember that Atlus wanted to shut the servers down in 2012. I wonder if Sony has been giving them money to keep the NA servers going, so they could sell more DeS copies on PSN/hype up Bloodborne’s return to “Latria” atmosphere.

It’s also possible that Sony requested the shutdown in preparation for a PS4 remaster, but that could be wishful thinking. Would love a version with the dedicated server/P2P hybrid we’ve gotten in recent Souls games, that can indefinitely preserve the online.

suddenly feeling a bit sad and regretful i didn’t make time to dust off my ps3 and play this over the past month.

the true demon’s souls ends here.

Emulation is in a good place for this now. If you have an i7 or higher clocked i5, performance is as good as a PS3 (30 fps cap), maybe a little better in terms of consistency and framedrops?

As far as I know, all visual issues are resolved, too. And cranking the resolution doesn’t require a beefcake video card.

did they fix shader compilation stutters? That was the only real issue when I checked a few months ago

I don’t know. I haven’t taken a dive, yet.

  • the March update/progress notes for RCPS3 are pretty interesting. Big changes in how they handle SPU threads and some other stuff.

According to their reddit, you still have to cache your own shaders. I dunno if that makes the game awful to play, like BoTW in CEMU or what. The devs do say they are working on improvements to how RPCS3 handles shaders.

it’s probably not awful, but it does need a solution long-term

plus it was such a wild achievement for dolphin https://dolphin-emu.org/blog/2017/07/30/ubershaders/
