DEATH STRANDER With a 2 in it 🐳 šŸ™ 🦘

AWOOOOOOOOO!

Time to try and ignore this thread as I get drunk on a game for the next two weeks.

Maybe it’s because so many people are playing at the same time, but I’m finding the structures and repairs by other players a little too helpful. I never really have to use a PCC because there are high-level structures all over the place. And when I reached the point where I could start repairing roads a bunch of them popped into existence right away.

It is funny the way other players use ladders to block roads, though.

you may consider playing offline. i’m considering the same thing. the game actually has multiple tiers of online connectivity so you can keep the social elements without getting lv3 timefall shelters and generators every half-kilometer

anyway, so i’ve played maybe 15-20 hours or so. i think my file is 23ish hours but some of that is idle time.

game absolutely rips! gorgeous, atmospheric, enjoyable.

spoiler below

i was not expecting lou to die like right at the beginning, tho i did suspect that might be an element of the game. but damn they ripped that band-aid off quick, huh

i love the weird new shit

dollman - yes

fragile’s neck-hands - yes

george miller and his tar cat - yes

mother fucking Charlie - mother fucking yes

the bokka gushing to Sam about The Man Who Delivers is delicious

the opening sequence slaps. i love the area near sam’s shelter, that geography just immediately sucked me in

I almost mentioned the thing you spoilered because I have some questions about it but I figure it might become more clear later exactly what’s the status of that character. (A Beached Thing? A hallucination?)

Also, remember when Disaster Report 4 came out and people complained about how, in classic video game style, you sometimes can’t progress until you talk to the right person to trigger the next part? That wasn’t a big deal to me but I mention it because I’m noticing a fair amount of it in this game.

I keep trying to explore but hit a dead end until I do things in the right order. Most notably in the beginning of chapter 3, where I wandered until I learned I had to go back to the starting point for a cutscene. Then I wandered again until I learned that I had to go back to the starting point again because I’d failed to accept an order after the cutscene.

But overall, this so far is one of those sequels that gives you more of the same with refinements and new surprises, in the best way.

there are two dialogue tree options i didn’t select that i couldn’t go back to - if anyone tries these, lemme know what happens. these both occur in the first two chapters. spoiler potential is very mild here

  1. what happens if you tell Fragile you can’t go to Mexico in Chapter 1?

  2. when meeting Charlie, what does he say if you tell him you trust Deadman’s voice the most?

I made the ā€œwrongā€ choice initially for both of these.

  1. The scene rewinds and brings you to the choice again. You can then refuse again and it rewinds again but in a different (and comical) way. It’s ultimately a ā€œBut thou mustā€ thing.

  2. He doesn’t let you choose any but the right one. He gives an excuse for why you can’t choose each of the others.

for 2, i went Heartman > Lockne > Die-Hardman, so I didn’t get to hear the excuse for Deadman. do you recall what it was?

It was something like ā€œIsn’t it a little soon, since he just entered his beach?ā€

two notable differences from the first game i’m clocking thus far

  1. vehicle handling still isn’t perfect, but it is significantly improved over the first one. you get way better feelings of gravity and momentum here
  2. packages seem to damage more easily here on Brutal than in the first game on Very Hard. this is a positive change since the first one was a little too lenient about damage

I live for likes from george miller. my psn name is swell-mobsman if anyone wants to form a Connection

It’s great when you capture a 'roo and it just huffs and puffs in its cage the whole time.

i have been insistent on making DS1 the first Kojima game i ever play but maybe ill make it the sequel because thats even more amusing to me for reasons that probably only make sense in my head

idk if this tweet has already been seen around here but it gets a chuckle from me every time:

[Hideo Kojima’s next game, released in 2024]

Nice to meet you, Mr Wayman. Isn’t it fascinating how we drive on parkways… but park in driveways? My name’s Drive Parkman. Use DRIVEs to neutralise parkers. Hold L1 and press X to drive your PARK. This is called the DRIVEWAY system

i went ahead and spoiled myself, and i haven’t touched the new game so i’m going off vibes but it’s gotta be some Fall of Hyperion shit right? Tomorrow’s gonna be Lou from the future after she grew up on the beach or something. i guess you could also say some FFIV shit

General Theme Spoilers from Chapter 2 onward:

I feel like they could do more…anything with this being the FOURTH time Sam has lost his family. (wife/kid, mom, mom/amelia, lou.) That hasn’t been really acknowledged in the text outside of he is numb to the whole thing. Sam you really need to get over the death of your child for Death Stranding 2.

And hey if people are nice enough to you you’ll get over your fear of people touching you. BOOO TO THAT!

Every time he lays down and makes a face because of some shoulder pain I hoot and howler.

I’m worried unlike every previous Hideo Kojima project they did blow all the setpieces on the trailers.

Outside of the wildfire that was incredible.

If I could hate VTubers it is now more because one of Peko’s stupid underground mines killed a bilby AND emu was hauling.

When she said ā€œhaha I guess I overdid it.ā€ I yelled YEAH YOU DID.
