I have a strong memory of a black and white Star Trek game that was for early Macs. It was like an adventure game in that it had a render of the room you were in and a text-based inventory. I think on the bottom. It had pretty decent sound effects that were from the original series, but I cannot find the game online. Not sure if dream
it’s the EXPERIENCE BIIIIIJ game
probably this one, no?

Yesssssss
I was looking up Star Trek games for the Mac and I found this TCRF page for The Transinium Challenge which is very good.

oh shit i think this is one i actually don’t have in my pack… (i think…) likely because i was unable to extract it successfully on my first attempt, but i think i can make it work now
Lmfao awesome

this seems to be part of their new initative to try adding this thing called “actual mechanics” to sto because I just got the Achilles from the Dominion Wars PC game and it also has this “press three of a certain color button and something happens!!” thing. I’m not complaining because you press all those buttons anyway but it is funny how they can only commit to the most half-hearted rotation system possible because the gacha whales who play this game will go apeshit if they can’t level any content in their path in 15 seconds
Speaking of whales I just did a group mission where two guys in the OP paid jellyfish ship were completely obliterating everything the second it spawned meaning the three other people were competing for crumbs of gameplay the entire time
It would be one thing if they were just doing that but the way 90% of this bullshit has to be so visually busy you cannot fucking see anything else is insane
I’ve been spending time at the Academy for the junior officer’s appreciation event (don’t ask) and guess what title you can get

It’s impressive just how little anything in any of those screenshots look like something out of Star Trek.
I’ll have you know that Borg Tiit is using Captain Picard’s holodeck machine gun from that scene in First Contact where he has to be physically restrained from pummeling a Borg drone and it costs 120 United States dollars.
When my friend’s dad was taking college night courses he used to get us into the university computer lab where we somehow all figured out how to play netrek together on the b&w Macs. The game ruled. It was definitely overwhelming but in a thats how being a Star Trek captain actually is sense.
It was easier than remembering the DOS commands to launch Double Dragon off of a floppy my friend got from someone else at school on the boring IBM machines.
this is why I like bridge commander because you have to delegate orders to your guys and hope they can get it done. if you’re going to put me on the bridge in a trek game i need to feel like counselor troi in that episode where she has to kill geordi to pass the command exam
speaking of bridge commander im enamored with the faces
picard lookks like he got caught in the son’a head stretching machine
this is the perfect level of 3d fidelity to me. look at that wonderful 2002 vintage recreation of the fucking enterprise-d bridge!!!
i also have always loved how stellar cartography looks in this game yeah that’s right baby we’re still using radar in the future it just has way prettier backgrounds
Tangential, but are there any good Klingon or Worf-coded games? I’ve been doing a TNG rewatch and it just reminded me that the Worf archetype is one of my faves, but besides Laezel in BG3 I can’t think of any good Worflikes in games.
Klingon Honor Guard is a forgotten unreal engine fps that is pretty alright
