how appropriately rotten

a quick look at the official facebook page shows people talking about a current storyline in which a character is trying to get elected as a reform mp

i think i bought the very last physical issue of this from an airport here, which was also my first time discovering it existed. i liked that the entire back half of the comic was like, fictional “match results” from the guy seemingly making all the teams in the comic in FIFA and recording how the computer matches played out

okay to be fair, that is the kind of weirdness i can get behind. like writing fanfiction about your fire pro wrestling save

Still disappointed in Kyle Baker switching to using Poser mid series ages ago. I wonder if he ever went back to, like, actually drawing.

i think i remember that one, was it the GN where he used it for the backgrounds and so it looked distractingly like he’d drawn characters on top of the strategy guide for a Myst clone?

recent one that felt like a blast from the past - those gou tanabe lovecraft adaptations will have pages when he busts out the full page rendition of like the cg models he’s using

edit: also scans of Donna Matrix on archive, reputedly the very first computer generated comic, which is maybe the most 1993 thing i have ever seen

batman: digital justice was 1990, and also completely used computer art

from the inside it sounds like “computer generated” might actually be referring to digital printing rather than the render art? the artist mike saenz also tends to get credit for first computer comic for “shatter” from 1984, which was drawn on a mac but i guess manually coloured

same guy also did the 1988 digital Iron Man: Crash which iirc was extremely of its time in a different way (crazily racist and paranoid about asian technology companies)

One I remember was Special Forces, his War on Terror parody. I don’t remember if it was good! He sure could draw though! First issue was a very nice looking war comic!

Final issue looked like this!

Brave choice there.

I dunno maybe he had some medical shit going on. His previous digital work was all fine.

Finished reading all of YuYu Hakusho a few days ago and, having had a few days to stew on it, I think my big takeaway was “Damn that kinda sucked.”

Togashi would have been better off sticking to shorter stories, which is why Level E is his most tolerable work.

Just kinda at a loss for what an asspull the power-up of the penultimate arc was (and how weirdly it just sorta changes Yusuke for the rest of the comic), and how the last arc is just kinda slapdash and then sorta John Hughes 80 movie ending montages its way to a wimpy conclusion.

Yes, those Snake-Eyes origin story parts were good. No wonder that character was always so popular.

Even though I’m not done with the old ones, I’ve been looking at some of the other G.I. Joe comics. People on the Internet kept speaking highly of one particular story called Cobra: The Last Laugh about a G.I. Joe soldier who went undercover within Cobra, so I tracked that one down and it was good (much more serious tone than the older comics).

Makes me want to read more from that era at some point, but they seem to be kind of hard to find right now. I guess the rights transferred from IDW to Image not long ago and they haven’t (yet?) reprinted everything.

There’s a new series going on right now, but apparently it combines G.I. Joe and Transformers and I’m averse to any kind of crossover of that type so I won’t be bothering with it.

Also,

IDW did this crossover as a weird out of continuity limited series. It sounds wild and I’ve been on the lookout for a trade of. Now that Image has the licenses they’re doing their “Energon Universe” thing where both titles are intertwined from the get go. Meanwhile Larry Hama is still doing stand alone Transformersless GI Joe issues that pick up where the Marvel series left off.
