an incredibly sweet thing that I think all of my cats (but at least the 2 boys) have done while they were kittens is have a tendency to “here comes a special boy” vocalize when they’re on the way over to you from the other room or the other floor. eventually they do stop doing this but I have no idea where the instinct comes from and it’s always so eager-sounding.
well, my wife will be upset about this so I think I will pretend I never saw it, but Leo has definitely taught Milo how to climb from the deck to the roof and run over to the neighbors’ place. not sure if you have ever watched a 4 month old kitten army crawl behind an adult cat while attempting to mimic his stealthy behavior so that no one down below notices them but it’s extremely cute
poor baby
i’ve never cut my guy’s nails
he needs them for his sculpting i think
Leo is such a good big brother… he’s always been a sweetheart and a great hunter but he was always relatively shy and submissive in comparison to Sophie because she’s got such a dominant personality, and having Milo around is making him just a bit less so and also less stir crazy here. Also, Milo is getting to the point of no longer being a handful at all even though he’s barely 5 months… I’m so grateful he’s getting to grow up with both of my other cats around, they’re really helping him get the hang of things and learn how to behave really quickly.
also he’s currently in the like 3 month window when cats actually ask to play fetch which is always fun and easy
also I don’t understand how anyone doesn’t raise their cats like dogs to the point where they greet you at the door when you get home and play fetch and things of that nature… it’s so easy! they like being praised so much!
literally just people playing into stereotypes of what they think cats should behave + also cats have a lot of distinct types of personality and some cats are more dog-like than others. Tim Tam used to play fetch as a kitten but lost interest, but he waits for me at the door and meows plaintively every time I leave my home, even if I’m just taking trash out to the trash cans. Vorbis never played fetch but he is a huge attention hog
zaku will pile up toys by my feet if im not paying enough attention to her fetch desire
Both of the kittens are still playing fetch with us, and they are now 4.5. Juice wants to play pretty much daily, and Goose is much less frequent, but it still happens. Even Koop kept it to off and on until she really got up there in years. By then she preferred her nightly routine of triumphantly trilling while trotting down the hall with her toy mouse “catch” in her mouth. Always brought it to one of us, and we’d coo about what a good huntress she was.
But none of them greet us at the door anymore. Cliff and Koop were the ones most likely to do that, or at least come up and approach the door. I miss it.
Trying not to completely spiral because on top of everything else going on, John went from normal romping around this morning to suddenly throwing up and straining to pass a bowel movement. He also isn’t interested in food or water and keeps finding places to basically hide away. He’s about 16, but up until a few hours ago he was still spry and other than having lost some weight, seemed like he was in great shape for his age. The last time we had his blood work done a few months ago the vet raved about how it was the best they’d ever seen at his age.
We managed to get an appt for him at the vet first thing tomorrow morning. Even Juice, who is his little shadow, is acting strange because he is. If we have to put him down tomorrow this very well might push me over the edge mentally. Another very sudden cat death in less than a year. I’m not ready to add another urn to the shelf.
John is still with us. We gave him a bath last night, since he had shit caked on him, and while doing that I could see he had some pretty much stuck in his sphincter. I helped him pass it, and cleaned him off. He seemed pretty traumatized by the whole thing but didn’t really fight what we were doing to help. He still wasn’t eating, though he did eventually drink a little. The vet didn’t seem overly concerned, gave him an enema, a bunch of fluids, some anti nausea meds to get his appetite back, and some laxative to give him to keep things moving. We were home for hours before he started eating, must’ve took the meds some time to kick in.
As much as we were feeding him every time he demanded, he still lost weight since he was last there. If we can’t keep the weight on the next step is more blood work.
Speedy recovery, John ![]()
