I saw this this morning and it’s pretty good, especially as it discusses the total freeze on game releases last year which didn’t get nearly enough play, and the way that self-censorship is occurring far outside China’s market through review-bombing by intensely nationalized folks, which has had noticeable effects among people I’ve talked to.

Between this and the kart racing, tennis, etc, I’m convinced that Baby Mario & co. are actually fully autonomous baby-shaped adults who wear pacifers and such as a fashion choice. Furthermore, they are completely distinct persons from their corresponding “adult” counterparts, and all resemblances are considered purely coincidental.
Further reseach is needed before we can say more on the matter.

I’m mostly distressed at the complete absence of any Koopa or Goomba doctors, despite their obviously large share of the population and hugely disproportionate number of (mostly work-related) injuries.

Pretty sure Marios are just a species of identical human-like fungi that grow out of 1-Up mushrooms. If the green cap of the mushroom turns red, it becomes a mario, otherwise it is a luigi.
Baby Mario/Luigi is just part of the early stages of growth from mushroom to humanoid.
Whenever a mario dies in game, it is replaced with another that grew from one of the collected 1-Ups. Marios grow quickly and eventually burst into spores which in turn grow more marios/luigis.
