no, it’s more bloated nonsense from an ego-maniacal misogynistic charlatan stuffed with rich people cameos. its sales pitch is ‘the guy who made MGS4 is finally given unlimited capital and free reign for his narrative pretensions.’ I can’t wait to see what the narrative justification is for languishing the camera on tortured naked women this time.

prob doesn’t matter to him as long as he can refer to it as an obscure thing he did which is now beneath him >_>

I don’t know still sounds interesting even when you describe it in your reductive dickhead way

For me, the Kojima Patina is exactly why I have no interest in it. I’d be a lot more interested if he had done something that doesn’t absolutely reek of his stench (like, Boktai or something, which he only produced). After MGS2, I had my fill of Kojima to last me at least two decades, apparently. I also do not see the appeal of the Third-Best Hannibal Lector or a Boondock Saint being in a video game.

fwiw, friend who is currently playing this claims it has definitely pushed him over to the side of really respecting what Kojima is doing as opposed to being vaguely suspicious of his actual talents and motivations; that the game is, indeed, exactly what you would hope for wrt giving “the guy who made MGS4 … unlimited capital and free reign for his narrative pretensions”

i didn’t ask for clarification, but i trust their opinions on a lot of stuff (we have divergences, of course). but even without hearing this from someone, the trailers all seem to make this clear, i think.

so like, i think if you’re someone who is on the side of “i think he makes work that contains problematic elements, but that is ultimately good or at least interesting and unique in what it’s trying to do narratively and as a videogame,” then this game is probably going to be cool?

if you fall into the camp of “i’ve mostly hated everything he’s made,” then…yeah, i doubt DS will be better?

no one working at a company making video games that employs more than 15 people understands subtext, it turns out

they did in 2007!

but I’m afraid that onboarding this massive generation of people who want to work in this industry in an era of greater corporate consolidation has not altogether helped

Realistically these decisions are made by a handful of people at the top deciding the tone, and the level design and writing leads deciding the concept for levels. But beyond those who actually are responsible, I think it does speak to the company’s culture: you’re interested in, you get hired, get noticed, and get ahead at Infinity Ward because you’re an armed services fetishist.

Anyone who wasn’t would have been gradually pushed out as they realized they faced decades of…making this game.

I guess you want to have and value the SEAL Consultants for Authenticity but then you’ve got these SEALs Consulting and your Troop Boner’s on overload and they’re calmly explaining how Sometimes In A Fucked Up Situation The War Crimes Just Happen What’re You Gonna Do? so what are you gonna do? Make your Elite Operators fallible human beings who make terrible decisions because their job is to solve situations with violence as fast as possible often with minimal information? The SEAL is right there! He is giving notes and you are very excited that he has killed multiple human beings (surely this is ok though war is when it is cool to kill people?)!

the only way to salvage these games is to make Alan Partridge narrate one

It’s OK SEAL-senpai the player has to do some fucked-up shit but in the end… it was all necessary… it was all correct… :servbotsalute:

Yeah, when you start seeing those military consultants leading the press packages for these games, and you realize they’re guiding a lot of the tone, and you realize they aren’t being nearly ironic enough when they put Ollie North in their game, there’s no way that viewpoint isn’t the dominant voice.

the new modern warfare has an apache level that looks exactly like the collateral murder video wherein your character is even hornier for how good of a job he’s doing killing people which I suppose is the natural evolution of the shitty ac-130 level everyone jerks off over from call of duty 4. every year it becomes easier and easier to say that it should be illegal to make these fucking games
