If you are wondering how the key feature of Monster Rancher – getting new monsters from your CD collection – will work on a device without a CD drive, apparently you’ll use the internet. According to a probably-not-100%-correct translation by Google, “you can create a monster from a CD by accessing the database from the game via the Internet and performing ‘music search.’”

Not sure why they’re doing 1 and not 2, the game everybody likes…

well tghere goes me wanting to buy it

Regarding a sequel to Moon , my thing is I want to make RPGs but I don’t want to make sequels. Moon ’s story is finished, I, nor anyone, should write a story after it’s end. I don’t want to think about money; of course if I announced ‘ Moon 2 ‘ people will buy it, but I hate this philosophy: fuck off.

—So do you play any RPGs nowadays?
Kimura: “I don’t want to speak about this, but my favorite role-playing game recently is Undertale .”
—That’s interesting because I believe I read the creator, Toby Fox, was inspired by Moon . Have you ever spoken with him?
Kimura: “Yeah. Toby is a friend by the way. When I made Onion Games in 2012, Toby found us and wrote an email to me. After I made Million Onion Hotel he played it and we talked again, giving me a good review.”
—I haven’t played Moon yet but I can see some similar themes, most notably how both games have a non-traditional structure.
Kimura: “I think Undertale is a miracle. It’s a very good game made by one person, Toby, who is a very good guy and friendly. There is nothing I can criticize him about. Moon is much different, which I can criticize a lot. Also I am a rough guy, a drunk, I speak stupidly, but when I speak with Toby Fox he is a gentle young man.”

same problem every action game has: more isn’t better. when tifa attacks, she has to punch 7 times instead of 1 time (or, uhh, three times, like in actual FFVII), because 7 times is obviously cooler. it isn’t. fuck off. exactly how many hundreds of battles do you think I’m going to be able to watch those weightless, empty combos wasting my time in before I lose it.

I want nothing more than to see you, specifically, lose it because of tifa’s combos

looks like they cut between several different recordings of this fight + played badly on purpose to show off a variety of mechanics

i feel like tifa’s combos aren’t big enough. they were bigger in the original game. :angrypig:

Does the database only have albums from before 1997 or whatever? Because that would rule

No clue. Not even sure how they’re going about doing this, though, MR just read the subcode data of CDs, and fans have ripped and posted that shit over a decade ago, so they have access to that kind of stuff. I’d probably just make the marketplace give you random monsters rather than just being a static set of monsters to choose from.

My very first monster in MR1 was a plant that I generated from The Craft Soundtrack. I better be able to search for The Craft Soundtrack and get a Plant (even though plants suck).
