im happy where this thread has gone tbh!! but also id love to hear more about bg3 from the gamers while i patiently wait for my turn
Yeah I am reading this thread and rubbing my hands together salivating for this game to come out on PS5 so I can play it on my TV with my gf. It sounds so good!
My problems with bg3 are:
The pathing/line of sight rules can be really frustrating because you can’t know ahead of time if the movement you’re burning is going to line you up how you expect (especially bad with thrown items because they seem to go in some kind of arc that requires extra height but YOU CANT EVER SEE THE CEILING and it’s so annoying to waste a turn setting up an attack that doesn’t work for seemingly no reason!!)
Every class is too fun and I want to play the game 12 times
The tutorial dungeon has no interesting choices and by the start of my third game I wish I could just skip it
Everyone is much faster at playing the game than me and I keep have cool stuff spoiled for me lol
If you select the ability you want to use and target the enemy you want, and you’re out of range/LOS, I def remember it also including a move to get you into position, with like a white ghost outline person where you’ll end up. Not always the move you want to make and it didn’t seem to always give me the preview (even when I could do it manually and make it work - game might be slightly buggy, a first for crpgs), but it seemed to pop up accurately more often than not.
my problem with bg3 is it releasing way too close to armored core innit
4e was when I checked out of DnD. ;-;
sorry for your loss, friend. 3.5e made bastards of us all.
Melted the swamp hag by targeting her weak dex saves with some weapon attack that gave her disadvantage on wis saves and then repeatedly used Command: Halt to keep her from zooming off to her lair, she didn’t get a single action the entire (3 round) fight
Tactician really is the most fun way to play this one
I just stunlocked her with my monk MC, don’t think she lasted more than 2 rounds
yeah I would recommend tactician to anyone somewhat familiar with anything adjacent to this, I’m on balanced and I never have to really worry about anything or use any spell that isn’t just ‘kill bad guy’
Larian games should ALWAYS be played on hard mode. Knife-edge combat where you have to use every little trick at your disposal to win is their specialty
I still barely use consumables lol
I think I have 15 minor health potions per person at this point, just barely scraping level 5. They don’t really do enough healing to be worth spending the bonus action in combat, but I guess if I have nothing else to use it on…
I’ve played way too much of this game over the last week despite the fact that it addresses none of my major gripes with the genre (failures are uninteresting; roleplaying as anything other than a nosey, helpful person is highly disincentivized; noncombat options almost always result in missing loot and xp). maybe I should have done the dark urge intro instead of custom character, I feel like it’s impossible to invent any kind of backstory/personality for my mary sue self-insert oc that’ll interact with the stories they’re trying to tell in any kind of interesting way. of course the game is “about” the MC, but it can never really be about them because they’re constrained to being the world’s most influential non-entity. idk, based on the hype and things I had heard I thought you could actually do some role-playing in this role-playing game, but the reality is closer to “hey you got your tactics in my dragon age”. which is really not bad for what it is despite the tactics part being kind of janky and poorly explained (~50 hours in I still have little grasp of how to best manage party members entering combat at different times without fucking up what actions/bonus actions they have available, though from what I gather from the latest patch notes this may have been a bug).
astarion is the best companion. he is my boyfriend, even though he sometimes sounds like stewie from family guy. karlach is the worst companion. I do not want to be friends with the heavy-handed queerness and mental health metaphor. the others are frustrating, boring, or annoying to various degrees.
This is very much not the case. You’re just not failing big enough. The bozos and I accidentally massacred the druids in the grove after one of us tipped over their little idol, I have gotten shoved off of cliffs, and every failure a dark urge experiences is usually leads to hilariously over the top evilness. You gotta be brave enough to fuck up your game world in pervasive, awful ways and you’ll find the game accomodates so many wonderful failure states.
Also karlach is the best companion, I do not even know how you would read her as a queerness and mental health metaphor. Are you thinking of actual worst companion, shadowheart?
if karlach existed irl she’d be posting on lex about being touch-starved
No thats astarion, hes the one who likes to whine about how no one is paying attention to him if you look away for a second. After finishing his story quests, I slapped some clown makeup on him and stopped talking to him entirely.
Karlach just has some physical issues that get mostly rectified by early act 2 and then she never mentions being horny ever again
Lol when’s the last time we got to argue about RPG companions like this. It kicks ass
Wyll: definitely a virgin. Stammers audibly if you hold hands
Gale: knows he’s got the biggest dick in the universe, doesn’t know how to use it
Astarion: will fuck anything, stinks of desperation, claims to hate drama but the biggest source of drama in the scene
Shadowheart: gross tradwife, terrible roommate
Laezel: basic bdsm
Karlach: bro with 2 brain cells
