thank you, the last two pictures here somehow totally connect with me, and not just because of the cars, jeeeeez… i can almost feel autumn atm, wow. Thanks for posting these!

Yes, those city paintings remind me of Steambot Chronicles in their expressiveness.

Oh my god, just imagining how the scrapped Steambot 2 could look like is already making me wish it’d be released, and if that’d pack a visual style imitating Spiros paintings, you would have a goty by default.

i’ve shown the screencaps you’ve linked to a friend of mine who’s a lot more into paintings than i’ll ever be, and i’ve been getting some praise for bringing this to his attention, which i wanted to duly relay here, you’ve made some people happy with those links, thanks!

Syd Mead

(Concept artist for Blade Runner, Aliens, and Tron.)

(If you happen to have the same thought as I did upon seeing the above, Syd Mead is cited as a direct inspiration for the design of Kaneda’s bike but Mead drew this years after Akira. It was his work on Tron that inspired Kaneda’s bike.)

Here’s one for Cuba:

Michael Whelan

These are illustrations from the “Our Universe” book mentioned earlier in this thread of what types of life might be possible in different parts of our solar system. (Whelan is also responsible for the cover art for many books I read when I was young, but I figured I’d stick to a theme here.)

Carl Vilhelm Holsøe

This artist was friends with Vilhelm Hammershøi (who I mentioned earlier in this thread) and maybe that shows in their work. I didn’t know that they were friends until I went looking for a few more images for this post (because I had only one in my image collection) and happened upon a page that mentioned it.

One thing I like about Holsøe is the way he painted other paintings in his paintings.

When I was at the Chicago Art Institute or whatever a few years ago, I stared at Ivan Albright’s Dorian Grey picture for awhile, and I still like it a lot. This isn’t the most vivid version of it, the colors are really something in person. It’s also gigantic.

Jesus christ, that is some serious meta-vibe, and i cannot stop thinking about whether he would have drawn a picture of himself drawing a picture with the pictures on the wall showing a scene with pictures in it, and i start to blank out…

also, those reflections in the bottom picture are just mind boggingly good.

this looks like one of those ai deep dreams
