getting the opposite feeling here lol
reading the original text literally feels like cheating coming off trying to figure out what the hell anyone means in the english version

it’s interesting how no one can agree if super mario world was a creative retreat or an adventurous divergence
I finished this after fiddling a bit because the final boss of this section is basically neutralized if you use the stone shield spell I also bought Salamander which destroys several of these rooms (though not all). A powerful charlotte can get through a lot here. still not sure if there’s anything you can do to make the frankensteiners easier but who cares, it’s over.
also, damn

i have been playing both versions (jpn has the superior soundtrack implementation) but i had no idea the USA version was so much harder
yeah, it’s kind of a Contra: Hard Corps situation. I honestly don’t think there’s any good reason to play the USA CV3 unless you have real nostalgia for it or you are just so god-like at the game that you demand a harder version.
glad you’re finding something to like within CV2, but yes, it’s uh…different! truly, when SotN came out, my thoughts were that it was like the Super Metroid to Metroid of Castlevanias. although, I did spend the entirety of my initial play of SotN waiting for a moment to leave the castle and enter a town and it never happened lol.
also, if this hasn’t been figured out already, false floors are easily identified by using your holy water, of which you have an infinite amount. it’s basically the same trick we see in Mega Man 2 with Bubble Lead.
on the soundtrack: CV2 is one of the rare instances where I think the USA version sounds better than the FDS version.
i did know this (thank you, the game would be even more merciless if i hadn’t realized this) but i wanted to add: there is an extremely funny/rude joke in mansion 2 involving this, lmao
Funny enough in the case of Hard Corps the North American version is the “intended” experience

My parents got really into a small handful of my nes games when I was a kid, and CV2 was among them. I have vivid memories of going to bed and hearing nonstop holy water sound effects coming from the other room as they tiptoed block by block through the mansions.
wow this is incredibly true
the FDS version has some moments (the town theme is decent) but the NES version is like, one of the absolute greatest soundtracks ever lol
I played like ten minutes of Castlevania before I went to bed last night, I’m gonna give it a real go. the Medusa heads in level 2 are the first real challenge
This is good to know because I’ve always preferred it.
oh maaaan, I just realized in Portrait of Ruin, when you’re in the Nest of Evil, I kept feeling weird like the soundtrack was changing tempo in a weird way sometimes. Well, it turns out that the deeper you go, the faster and higher pitched it is (or maybe just faster but it seemed higher pitched too). Absolutely wild and that has driven me wild forever. When I got here the first time I was like, oh yeah, it’s the area with the weird soundtrack, but no. it’s intentional.
Anyway I finished that, I have maybe a percent left in the main castle to complete exploration, and then two more quests. I don’t think I’ll be mastering every sub-weapon, but I do plan on collecting all enemy drops and trying to buy everything from the shop. I don’t know why I’m so intent on this but it’s just got its hooks in. I don’t think I’ve ever actually gotten a full completion, even without sub-weapon mastery, but I’m less than 20 hours in it and that’s frankly not bad for what it is.
peak cluttervania. its just so fucking audacious about the completion requirements that its always charmed me
plus i love to see that pie get bigger the more i throw it. they understand a real reward
The master ring increases the SP gain you get so much that I’m just gonna 100% the subweapons too. Got all the quests, got all the rooms, got every drop from every enemy. Now the only thing left is to meticulously (and by meticulously I of course mean “wearing Eye for Decay” at all times) walk through every room and find whatever breakable walls are hiding the few remaining items that I can’t get through drops (as well as getting enough money to buy out the shop, which is…. too much money.)
I don’t know why this is the pointless compelling task I’ve landed on, but I truly think that I should get there in under 25 hours, which is half the time I played Lies of P for.
I got every item except one and I spent a lot of time scouring everything, and I decided I just don’t care.
It’s a birthday cake that I need to buy on my birthday.
Anyway, i’ll be moving on to something else now, but man. I was sure I had scoured everything, and indeed I had.
I thought about trying to play the other two campaigns and I made it almost all the way through the Richiter (?) campaign and then realized at the end that I can in fact find HP and MP up bottles, and also that dracula is crazy hard, especially if I have no healing items and haven’t been collecting health ups and have only been racing to the next boss.
sisters mode is pretty quick and fun ![]()
In 2004, Castlevania was released for the Game Boy Advance as part of the Classic NES Series by Nintendo. The original end credits of the game, which consisted of puns on the names of horror movie stars, were removed in this version.
Not quite as offensive as re-dubbing SotN, but also a sin.
Didn’t see anyone post this, but they uploaded a track from the new game
I…don’t really like it! Specifically, I think the production just sounds way too “of the moment,” and imo, will sound extremely dated within the decade.
