A Castlevania Thread

Symphony has an overrated OST, not even the best in the series IMO.

That’s like saying someone isn’t even the coolest member of the Wu-Tang Clan.

the music influences the flavour of the game so much that i wonder how separable it is when thinking about which areas were most enjoyable to play through

If Aria had Symphony’s fidelity and a few more nuances, extended items/equipment to match, it’d probably edge out for my tops. The 20XX setup with Soma Genya Arikado and crew is wild yet feels closest to a direct progression, stays classy while becoming more anime; Dawn is mechanically good but drowns in it.

I had to stop playing my first time reaching the Underground Caverns and Clock Tower to record their music (Crystal Teardrops, Tragic Prince) on a tape deck. The Catacombs normal and reverse might be my fav areas though…it’s an already demonic, hellish place of cursed airs. And the inverted Floating version twists things quite nastily.

There are a lot of rooms in Aria where the reward is just money.

The game is better about being weirder as it goes on as it should. It should just be weird as hell what does Dracula’s Castle look like without it’s master.

it should have sections reflecting Soma’s desires and memories drawing him to claim it.

now im thinking about the desert music in portrait of ruin, the best castlevania game (you can run your fingers through your hair and get whip OR claymore… and instead of listing all my favorite things about the game its just really hard to get into a castlevania where i cant press a button to shout my own name )

even though the best stuff takes place outside the actual castle, the ITS CASTLEVANIA! song is one of my favs in the series

i just replayed this game a year ago but AHHH NOW I WANNA PLAY AGAIN

i like the boots that make you a pixel taller. in fact all of the 'pointless" stuff in castlevania is the best. which is why i love cluttervanias. its like eating at a restaurant with a bunch of shit on the wall! i love to look at all the pointless shit on the wall

a lot of people complain about how they’re too loud and the foods not good or whatever but where else can you find the very specific wall shit? NO WHERE

id probably like symphony of the night. someday ill play other games again

they’re both good you just have to go all the way one or the other

So is Harmony of Dissonance peak Cluttervania then? What with the room you can fill with furniture that serves no actual purpose.

harmony is easily the tightest of them!!

Harmony’s OST is completely forgettable except for Marble Corridor, which is the best Vania track (if it was made on a less shit sound system)

It was a kind of okay game
