grindelwald is too hard for me. i’m a cornering babby. i don’t know what to do honestly because my skyline pretty much tops out regulations

Practice cornering in the license tests?

I did like 20 practice laps on the test run and I keep trying to race but the AI bumps me too much and I have poor control when it happens

that was so ugly

I feel like Grindelwald favors lightweight (ideally FR) cars. Especially with its narrow high speed walled sections. The Skylines can be heavy and understeer-prone in 4WD form. I’m not sure if your Skyline is FR or 4WD.

Oh shit you did it! While I was typing this reply

Good work! That course is TOUGH

It’s FR, I prefer rear drive for the tight courses so I can do ugly and aggressive power slides

Yeah they can be real bastards. I have no qualms with fighting dirty with them when necessary!

playing gt1 has me really missing midfield raceway, all the huge sweeping turns on that course are so fun!

Tonight we’ll do some more rallying. I want to see if Shelley can handle the whole set of rally challenges. We head to page two of the list of races. There are some Pikes Peak courses here!

First, there’s a set of three downhill challenges on the same section of Pikes Peak with a different ghost car to race for each challenge. First up is a Peugot 306. I make pretty sloppy work of this course. My rally instincts are not working very well for me here. Counter steer seems way too exaggerated. I will slowly learn how this game expects me to maintain control of a slide. Despite the sloppiness, we win against the 306.

It’s easy to make yourself look good when you pick the screenshots

We win the very Peugot 306 we were competing against as a prize car! It’s a sweet-looking FF rally machine! We will call it Marcell. Marcell has no info screen.

The next two challenges go the same way. Easy wins with sloppy but improving driving! We are not given any prize cars, but we finish the Pikes Peak Downhill Challenge.

@HOBO If I had the dreadful US version soundtrack volume past zero, we probably would hear Sex Type Thing on every rally course. This would probably cause me to drive even worse! Thank God there’s an independent volume for the music. Someone needs to romhack the R4 soundtrack into this game!

We might as well stay at Pikes Peak, so we head to the hill climb course for the next challenge. The list of opponents here makes my jaw drop. The Cultus and the Escudo are absolute beasts! The Suzuki Escudo is the most powerful vehicle in all of GT2 as far as I know. Shelley can probably handle the Ford RS200 Rally Car though, so we’ll start there!

Shelley beats the RS200! Our uphill driving is even more sloppy than our downhill, but I’m starting to learn to resist the temptation to counter steer so quickly. I even pull off some hairpins with almost nice looking power slides!

We win a '95 Toyota Celica GT-Four Rally Car. I am enjoying this collection of Celica rally cars! This is Forrest. Forrest has no info screen.

Work came up, so I have to take a break. I plan to take a shot at the other two races tonight. I’m terrified of the Escudo driven by the equally terrifying “Monster” Tajima.

The rallying continues! As I suspect, Shelley has NO CHANCE against the Suzuki Cultus Pikes Peak. I won’t even try the Escudo as it’s just lighter and even more powerful! We lose by a full fourteen seconds! The Cultus flies right past us and just keeps on going! Do I have to spend two million credits on a car to beat these suckers?

No matter! Let’s go complete a challenge we have a chance at! The Smokey Mountain North Reverse challenge looks good! The first car we will face is a Nissan Pulsar GTi-R rally car. Shelley has no trouble winning here.

We win the Pulsar GTi-R prize car! What a cool little hatchback! None of the rally cars seem to have info screens. This will be Patricia.

The next race is against a Celica. The year and type are not listed, but I win the race and win it as a prize car. It’s a '91 Celica GT-Four rally car. This is my favorite generation of the Celica! This is Allison.

The final race is against a Mitsubishi Evo that puts up one hell of a fight! We exchange positions during the race. I have to stay focused and take bigger risks than I’m normally comfortable with. We win!

That completes the Smokey Mountain North Reverse challenge. There are only two more challenges left in the rally events, but the pair of Suzukis will haunt my nightmares tonight!
