since it is the only game i have played on that list, had to vote for Sonic Team Racing, even though it has a few problems to deal with.
First is that it had to follow up the best kart racer since Super Mario Kart, and this is a fact, see that extensive study from that PhD Rob Otnik that mysteriously disappeared*
Srsly tho, it is mind boggingly crazy that it even exists, and in hindsight feels like one of those rare games that only could have been made at that exact time, where tech, enthusiasm and craftsmanship of the team (at times it feels like F-Zero GX!) , as well as finances and decisionmaking met to greenlight what we got.
Second is that the team rightfully accepted that they could not follow up TRANSFORMED, and just didn't.
I feel like Mario Kart is the prime example of a series that tried too many times to follow up with the least amount of changes to repeat the formula without alienating a core brand customer base of installment-1, and, considering their numbers, successful at that. So it must be my name that makes me hate on them!... That list doesn't go well, i think!
Srlsy tho, part 2: I feel like they tried to repeat TRANSFORMED, in early development realized they just couldn’t pull it off, and then tried to engineer a core gameplay they can handle… which is the only explanation i can think of why it feels a bit off at times, with sudden glimpses of excellence hidden beneath a layer of goodish’ness that, at worst, doesn’t captivate. I would love to know what went on behind the walls of the dev team(s?) that made them come up with what we got, and especially what they tried, and didn’t do.
.... errrmmm..... so.... yeah, why would you now want to play Team Racing.
Well, if you have been playing TRANSFORMED on and off for soon'ish a decade by now, it is time to move on and try sth new?
*: i know… wait… i hope that this j/k isn’t actually true, don’t @ me if you should find such a thesis.
… tl;dr is… play TRANSFORMED?
