funny how this thumbnail looks like one of the last scenes in Twin Peaks The Return lol
Haha now that you mention it i see a weird congruence with ending of that video and a certain radio station scene in part 8
yeah like i’m not going to say that the Deeper Understanding video is at the same level of cinema as Twin Peaks The Return or anything but thematically they’re very similar contexts
I love Kate Bush! Aerial is my favorite album of hers. Nocturne in particular really moves me with its use of the sunrise on the beach as a symbol of the sublime hiding in ordinary life. It was a big inspiration on the ending of my first feature!
For deep cuts, I like:
Love and Anger (I love the world music influence on this album, and this is my favorite track from it. One of her most massive choruses. Also the way she says “Yeah.” at the end is the best thing ever)
The 12" cut of Experiment IV (the lyrics about a secret government sound weapon are SUCH Nigel Kneale 70’s BBC teleplay vibes, I love it)
Wild Man (I know it was the single from the album, but nobody talks about it and the winter adventure vibes are so fun)
The Director’s Cut version of Rubberband Girl (I wasn’t crazy about the original version but I like how she turned this one into this weird repetitive rock stomper with low-fi tin can vocals. It’s a pretty unique sound for her and works great as an album closer)
this part at the end of the Love and Anger video was the inspiration for one of my favorite Chris Fleming videos lol
i love the 20 big ones sb trend… i also love Kate so so much… i love her i love her i love her
no way can it be considered a deep cut because it was a single off of Hounds of Love but i really adore “The Big Sky” and think it’s probably the most underrated of those singles probably… and pause for the jet
also one of those neat songs where the single/video mix is noticeably different… i prefer the album cut as i typically do in those instances (lil more bombastic and immediate) but they’re both great
oh my god look at her she’s so fucking cute. GOALS
also gotta link this fuckin sick Xmas special performance of “The Wedding List”
“Don’t Give Up” was my introduction to her (i actually thought on first glance at the title this would be a Peter Gabriel thread lol) and i have been enchanted with her voice ever since, like maybe my favorite singer of all time. certainly in the top tier
if you love it so much make a 20 big ones thread

My favourite part of The Big Sky was always those crazy screams towards the end, haha
I feel like with a bit more thought I could probably compile a great big list of my favourite lil vocal turns of hers. Like this one just popped into my head, by no means a favourite song of mine (bit too diddley-idle-y for my tastes), but the background vocal that comes in partway through is a real earworm
…wE’vE bEeN wAiTiNg AlL night LOOOng…
i mean you could accuse all of the hounds record of being a bit too blarney
I think it’s more the repetitiveness of it on burning bridge. I do really like Jig of Life and Night of The Swallow on The Dreaming (on ellaguro’s list above too). Those ones at least have enough variation to keep you guessing. Probably just a hangover from being exposed to a lot of boring trad growing up… ![]()
this is the KB song that gets stuck in my head most frequently
just the sing-songy weird verses and the breathy choruses are so magnificent. and that video holy shit her videos are so good (“Cloudbusting” maybe my favorite ever???)
and this is the one i unadvisedly try to belt along to most (i mean. more than “Hounds of Love” or “Wuthering Heights” i guess. my falsetto is pretty good but not THAT good) (i tried to do “Running Up That Hill” at private karaoke once and cut myself off with “OOPS NOPE NEVERMIND 2ND CHOICE”)
shouted out I’m AAAALLLL YOUUURRS
@eska ‘s Babooshka is sb legend
